Owning Historic Buildings Has It's Perks

When we took on our first renovation project in our historic town, little did we know that within a few years, we would take on another building project. We now own two, beautiful historic buildings and life is never boring. Investing in our town has been truly rewarding.

Today, however, things have really gotten interesting. Taylor Sheridan, the famous producer of Yellowstone, 1883, and 1923, Tulsa Kings, and many more, owns land in our area. Because of this, his production team has been scouting out buildings on our Square to be used in upcoming episodes.

We received a call that they have chosen one of our buildings for filming. How F U N is that??? It will be an experience to go through this process. We will be discussing contracts, filming specifics, timeframes, etc.

I shall keep you all in the loop and of course, I will be posting about the process as things develop. We have enjoyed watching these shows and how cool it will be to see one of our own buildings in an episode. Woo hoo - our little town will be transformed into yesteryear! Take ONE - ACTION!

Congratulations. I live about a block and a half from the Sugar Hill Historic District and about 3 blocks from the Hamilton Grange Historic Districts. It's a lot of fun to live in or near a historic district. My neighborhood is named for Alexander Hamilton- and his home, The Grange, is just a handful of blocks away (now in it's 3rd location within a few blocks of the original construction- the last move was in 2008 and can be viewed online). My podcast, discusses so much of the rich history of my area. This week I released an episode on the Battle of Harlem Heights- located on the modern day campus' of Columbia University and Barnard College. Today, I recorded episodes on Getting to know Manhattanville (where Columbia's new campus is taking over a larger portion of the neighborhood) and Columbia University's Forgotten Nuclear Testing Facility- not to mention the school's involvement in The Manhattan Project.

It really can work out if you are someone who can really preserve the legacy and soul of a place.

Adam Feinberg how wonderful that you are sharing the rich history of your area. I will look up your town as it sounds charming.

Hi Paula, I live in NYC- Manhattan, with each neighborhood having a distinct look and feel. My office is in Midtown near Times Square- an area that gets a lot of attention, but it doesn't reflect some of the more charming aspects of other neighborhoods in Manhattan. That said- my home is roughly about 100 blocks north of Times Square with a very different character. Most of the buildings in the neighborhood are 8 stories or less- and of the area that isn't already landmarked or a historic district in my neighborhood, the state has a proposal to designate most of the rest of the neighborhood a historic district. The Hamilton Heights neighborhood is named after Alexander Hamilton, who owned a large portion of the land within the boundaries of the neighborhood.  The city has prioritized filming in and around my neighborhood because not only can it create a great backdrop for tv and film, but since it's a residential neighborhood- it's not creating the traffic backups, and other logistical issues caused when filming in an urban area because you just don't have the same type of pedestrian and vehicular traffic up here as you do 60+ blocks south.

Laura Cerrano, I agree that preserving the legacy and the soul of these buildings and our towns is very important.

I love discovering the history of the building...and thinking about what might have passed through those doors.

Hello Paula,  Not only is this fun it is exciting as well.  They would have been fools not to select one of your buildings for one of the episodes. Congratulations!

I love old historic buildings like that one, Paula.  When I grew up it was in a neighborhood with wonderful structures like that one.  However, in the 1970s a sad thing happened.  They were torn down to build new modern buildings.  I hated it then, and continue to hate it to this day.  However, we did manage to restore Old Sacramento, and I'm glad about that!

Oh, Myrl Jeffcoat, that almost happened here in Granbury. Thankfully, a wonderful woman by the name of Mary Lou stepped up and "saved the Square". So thankful for her work and mission.

Hi  Paula,

How exciting!  First of all, Taylor Sheridan puts out a phenomenal  product.  Just to be part of one of his shows is really something.

I have been fortunate to be part of an HGTV show and that was a lot of fun.  However that was only 3 days.  I can’t wait to read your updates.
