I don’t know if you know about Maria Shriver’s Sunday paper but I’ve subscribed for a couple of months now and Sunday January 29th her Essay really struck a chord with me.
She talked about the past weeks horrific 2 different CA shootings and the Memphis police savage beating of 29 year old Tyre Nichols. Many of you I'm sure watched the video. His mom didn’t want to see the city burn or for people to be hurt in her son’s honor. She wants justice for her son, but is praying for the police officers and their families.
What struck a chord with me in Maria’s essay was her recommendation for us to commit to become cycle breakers and for each of us to take one small step forward to commit, in our own way, to break the cycle of senseless violence in our nation. We need pattern disrupters and there are plenty of us out there. Finding the courage to step forward and say “No there is a different way forward,” is possible!
Her statement is so true: “We can’t move forward in our lives, in our families, or in society unless we see the patterns, acknowledge them in our hearts and minds, and use our voices to commit to change. We must set out to make our actions match our intentions.”
“When patterns are broken, new worlds emerge.” Tuli Kepferberg
