The Power of a Strong Online Presence: The #2 Best Marketing Practice for Real Estate Agents


I have rallied for years that working your sphere is the KEY to success in this industry. I’ve written countless posts on this over the years so, I decided to get off of my soapbox for Alex & Anna’s January 2023 Challenge this month!


So, with that, let’s dig into my #2…

In today's digital age, second only to working your sphere religiously, having a strong online presence is the next most crucial marketing practice for real estate agents. As I’m sure you are aware, a recent study found that 92% of home buyers use the internet to find their next home, making an online presence essential for attracting and engaging potential clients.


Here are the key components of a strong online presence for real estate agents:


  1. Professional Website: A well-designed website that showcases your listings, features testimonials from past clients, and provides valuable information about the real estate market in your area. Make sure your website is optimized for search engines and mobile devices. I recently had mine revised after an impressive ActiveRain ZOOM call presentation. Thanks to Charr Hammett with, I IMMEDIATELY received a great lead, who immediately converted and sealed the deal (Closed) 35 days later!

  2. Active Social Media Accounts: Utilize platforms such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram to connect with potential clients, showcase your listings and share industry news and tips. Regularly post high-quality content and interact with your followers to build your online community.

  3. Optimized Google My Business Listing: Claim and optimize your Google My Business listing to ensure that your business information appears correctly in Google's search results. This includes your business hours, contact information and reviews from past clients. 



By having a strong online presence, we can reach and engage a wider audience, build our brand and ultimately increase our chances of success in this competitive real estate industry. Make sure your online presence accurately reflects your brand and showcases your expertise, and you'll be well on your way to attracting more potential clients and closing more deals.

What can you do today? Pick up the phone and call someone from their sphere! Talk to them about social media - you don't always have to talk REAL ESTATE!!

I feel the same way, Nick Vandekar, 610-203-4543. I have moved to 'being present' (well, over a decade ago) and if I'm with someone, that is my focus. I've never been 'there's a bigger name' person but, I would excuse myself if I thought I was answering a lead. No more! A timely call-back is just as good as an answer!

You're so right, Aura Alex - it is simple but, I do believe that many agents get so wrapped up in working online - with the hopes of getting online leads - they forget about those in their lives who already know, trust & love them! I'm trying to establish a balance myself but, will admit to letting my online go quite often when my sphere needs me! Sometimes I go a week without posting on FB - I have 'LIVE' people that I'm actually speaking with! LOL

Hi Michael Jacobs! You're so right...I taught a class here many years ago - you have that sphere, now you have to make sure they KNOW you're in the business. It's not up to them to remember US! Our marketing is tailored to THEM, as it should be. 

While I do love online marketing, talking to clients, sphere, friends & family on the phone is SO much more important to me.

As for the marketing online, one thing that I didn't mention is that it is so easy to go from a non-agent to an agent on social media. Letting your sphere know you've made a choice to join our illustrious profession is SO easy on social media, right?!
