This is my submission for the February 2023 Challenge hosted by Debe Maxwell, CRS with Brian England from ActiveRain. The objective for this challenge is to introduce you to where I live and work. If you ever flew to or from DFW International Airport, there is a very good chance you flew over my house. To drive to the Town from DFW International Airport it takes about 17 minutes or 3 miles north of the Airport, 20 miles NW of Dallas, and 25 miles NE of Fort Worth. What you eventually come to when you drive down 2499 or Long Prairie Road from DFW Airport is the intersection of 2499 (Long Prairie Road) and 3040 (Flower Mound Road). To the right of the cross roads, is the Mound which I photographed below. During spring, it is covered in wildflowers. Before sunrise on Easter Sunday morning, you can gather together with others around the three large Crosses on the top of the Mound. People volunteer to come and pray.
The city was incorporated in 1961, and the name Flower Mound was derived from the mound covered in wildflowers. To this day, the Town has a Committee where volunteers tend to the Mound. Flower Mound has a story to tell. Let me be your guide and share with you all the wonderful things I love about Flower Mound.
Once upon a time, Flower Mound was a hill covered in wildflowers with outdoor opportunities for outdoor lovers. As a flower lover, I was attracted to this Town because of the name. I quickly made a flower garden the first year I lived in Flower Mound in the Spring of 1998 and added new plants each year. Flowers bloom from early spring and it is not unusual to continue blooming through the month of November or December (especially roses). Below are samples of the flowers I enjoy growing. I am drawn to the exotic plants that grow every year and I add new ones too. Butterflies, Hummingbirds, and Hummingbird Moths thrive!
One may think Flower Mound doesn't have four seasons. Guess what? Flower Mound does has four seasons. Winter is the shortest season. Spring turns into a burst of colorful buds, grass, trees, bluebonnets, and flowers. Plants continue to grow from summer through fall. The trees and plants are the most obvious way to know what season you are enjoying.
Every Town has a beginning. The homes are all different based on when buildings were built. Not long ago while doing construction on a very old property, it was discovered there was once a log cabin. It is now open for visitors to come and visit when days and hours are posted. One can see how cleverly the new construction began without disturbing its original bones. Once the owner discovered its value to the Town of Flower Mound they donated it to the Town for all to enjoy. The Collage below shows what it was like then and after it was renovated for all to appreciate. The house was lived in by two families before the dwelling was donated to the Town of Flower Mound.
People continue to come to Flower Mound for its history, patriotism, education, unique features it has to offer, and because it is the land that they love.
There are many different subdivisions, ranches, residential homes, apartments, Townhomes, and newly built Mixed Use with restaurants, shops, and Movie Theater. Some have an HOA and others do not. Prices and sizes vary. Buyers buy homes mainly because of the high ratings in the LISD school district and all it offers from academics to sports, music, science, technology, the arts, leadership, debates, and much more. There are private, public, charter, preschools, colleges, and academy in Flower Mound. Pride of ownership shines as bright as the sun and the full moon at night.
There are many ways to enjoy Flower Mound whether that be golfing, equestrians, neighborhood trails, the lakes, etc. If you yearn for "Oh Give Me A Home Where The Buffalo Roam", there is that possibility too off of Shiloh Road and Cross Timbers by Christinas Authentic Mexican Restaurant, one of the first establishments in Flower Mound. Buffalos roam there on the corner of Cross Timbers. There are many other cuisines such as Indian, Thia Ruby, Istanbul, 1845 Taste Texas, Fish City Grill, and other ethnic group restaurants. Since Valentine's Day is right around the corner, if you are craving Amore, perhaps I can recommend Bari's Italian Restuarant, Fioni Italian Restaurant, or for a casual night out with family and friends in a friendly authentic Italian Restaurant with NY Italian Owners, try Enzo's. All three of these restaurant owners are from Italy.
I hope you enjoyed your guided virtual tour. If you need more information from a local, please let me know.
