Don't Pack What You Don't Want To Throw Away

Don't pack what you don't want to throw away. I had a call from one of my recent sellers who moved out of state. She tried to warn others to pack carefully.

You don't need to pay to move unneeded stuff that will only get moved again once you get to your new home.

Thinking she had thrown, donated, and given away a tremendous amount before she moved, she found she still kept way too much. And once in her new home has started to donate and toss things not needed.

If you don't love it, don't pack it. Repurpose it before you move!

Hi Margaret this is oh so true.  Many times I've suggested to clients not pack what they don't want, need or love.  And how many actually do that?  I've had calls from clients  'after the fact' saying - oh I wish I would have followed your advice better! I  then give them a name of where they can donate the items!

Anna Banana Kruchten Phoenix Broker This seems to be what happens with many people when they move. They take unneeded stuff which has to be given away or trashed.

Margaret great advice, but somethings even if no longer need tend to be hard to part with.  😋

Some have a hard time parting with items, even when not needed.

That's excellent advice, Margaret.  I remember my mom often said, "A move is like a good fire!"

Yes, taking the time to pack up and move stuff you'll never need or want is a waste of time and energy! Make the decisions before moving if you can...

This is good advice to share. We have moved too much unneeded stuff three times.

Good morning, Margaret... I've moved so many times, I learned this the hard way a long time ago. After our last move almost 17 years ago I ended up with just one relatively small box that has remained unpacked (for very specific reasons). But I deal with clients all the time who have boxes and boxes of stuff in their home or in a storage unit that have not been unpacked for years.

You have learned the hard way. You would be a great teacher to help others move. I'm sure your clients appreciate all your advice.

While we honestly just moved ourselves, this rings so very true.  Especially because we were storing it during the transition, which was a total waste of money.  Thanks for sharing and have a fabulous day!

Margaret- I've done both. When we moved back to FL from Northern VA, I thought I'd sold, donated, and ditched a lot of my things...until I unpacked and wondered why I'd moved it. And when we moved from FL to Houston, I realized that I'd sold, donated, and ditched things I wish I'd kept. Go Figure.
