WM Phoenix Open Golf At Scottsdale TPC 2023

The Waste Management Phoenix Open, played at the Scottsdale Tournament Players Club (TPC Scottsdale), is one of the most popular golf tournaments in the world. Over 750,000 fans are expected to attend this year!  It has a rich history that spans over 80 years, dating back to 1932 when it was first held as the Arizona Open. The 80+ year history makes the WM Phoenix Open one of the oldest golf tournaments on the PGA tour.  WMPO has earned the title as the most well attended golf tournament.  Over the years, the tournament has undergone several name changes and has grown in popularity, attracting some of the biggest names in golf and thousands of spectators from all over the world.  Almost 130,000 of the attendees will be from out of state, many from other countries.

In 1939, the tournament became part of the PGA Tour and was officially renamed the Phoenix Open. In the decades that followed, the tournament continued to grow and evolve, establishing itself as one of the premier golf events in the world. The Tournament made the TPC in Scottsdale it's permanent home in 1986.  In 2002, the tournament was renamed the Waste Management Phoenix Open, reflecting the new title sponsor, Waste Management Inc.

One of the most notable features of the Waste Management Phoenix Open is its unique and boisterous (putting it mildly :-) 16th hole, which is known for its loud and enthusiastic crowds. Over the years, the 16th hole has become a fan-favorite, and it is now considered one of the most recognizable holes in golf.

The tournament also features a massive hospitality area known as the Bird's Nest, which attracts top musical acts and is one of the biggest events in the city of Scottsdale during tournament week.  This week some of the big name artists playing at the Bird's Nest are Jason Aldean, Machine Gun Kelly (MGK), The Chainsmokers, Dustin Lynch, Lainey Wilson, Mackenzie Porter and JXDN

In addition to its exciting golf action, the Waste Management Phoenix Open has also become known for its commitment to sustainability and waste management. Over the years, the tournament organizers have implemented a number of initiatives to minimize the event’s impact on the environment, including the use of compostable food service items, a comprehensive recycling program. The WMPO Tournament is a prime example of what a major sporting event can achieve when it prioritizes both excellence and responsibility.

Weather - If you are in town to enjoy the golf tournament, or the Super Bowl, the weather is Chamber of Commerce perfect!  Low to mid 70s.  I have been to WMPO many times and advise to wear layers, it is still cool in the mornings.  Have Fun!!
