Why I (Still) Love My EV One Year Later

As a proud owner of an electric vehicle (EV), I can say that my love for this vehicle has only grown stronger since the day I took delivery one year ago. There are many reasons why I have fallen even more in love with my EV, and I would like to share some of these reasons in this essay.

First and foremost, I love the smooth and quiet ride that my EV provides. Unlike traditional gasoline-powered vehicles, EVs are virtually silent, providing a calm and peaceful driving experience. Additionally, the electric powertrain offers smooth and instant acceleration, making for a more enjoyable driving experience.

Another reason why I love my EV is the environmental benefits it provides. EVs produce significantly less air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions than traditional gasoline-powered vehicles, which helps to reduce the negative impact of our transportation sector on the environment. Additionally, because EVs are powered by electricity, they can be charged using renewable energy sources, further reducing their carbon footprint.

I also appreciate the cost savings that my EV provides. Although the upfront cost of an EV can be higher than that of a traditional gasoline-powered vehicle, the cost of operating an EV is significantly lower due to the low cost of electricity compared to gasoline. I have noticed a significant reduction in my monthly fuel costs. I no longer have to pay for routine oil changes or other costly maintenance procedures for traditional gasoline-powered vehicles.

Furthermore, I love the convenience that my EV provides. With a range of over 200 miles, I no longer have to worry about finding a gas station on long road trips. Additionally, I can charge my EV at home using a Level 2 charging station, which is much more convenient than stopping at a gas station.

I also appreciate the advanced technology and features that my EV offers. My EV has a high-tech touchscreen display, advanced navigation and infotainment system, and a suite of driver-assist technologies that make driving safer and more convenient. Additionally, my EV offers instant torque and impressive acceleration, which provides a thrilling driving experience.

Another reason I love my EV is its positive impact on the communities in which I live and work. As more and more people adopt EVs, we are helping to reduce air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions in our communities, which is essential for the health and well-being of everyone who lives and works there.

Additionally, by using clean electricity to power our vehicles, we support the growth of renewable energy and help to create a more sustainable energy future.

I am proud to say that one year after delivering my electric vehicle, I loved it even more than when I first got it. From the smooth and quiet ride to the environmental benefits, cost savings, convenience, advanced technology and features, and positive impact on communities, there are so many reasons why I love my EV and would highly recommend it to others. An electric vehicle is worth considering whether you want to reduce your carbon footprint, save money on fuel and maintenance costs, or enjoy a more enjoyable and convenient driving experience.

There are so many strong reasons to buy an EV, but I am still on the fence. I don't understand how they can't make a rechargeable battery system for the car and like a gas-powered vehicle not include a self-contained charging system so keep it almost entirely off the grid.

Paul D. Diaz, EA, MBA I am in agreement with Ed.  The length of time it takes to recharging these vehicles and the lack of battery time for long trips is what has kept me from considering purchasing one.  Also is our electrical grid going to be able to supply enough electricity for these cars.  California has a serious issue with that.

Range anxiety is real. My other car (the old car) is a hybrid, and the battery regenerates while braking. That technology has improved and is included in all "modern" EVs. I love 1-pedal driving. It works like a throttle and allows you to preserve range. For long trips, depending on the distance, it does require planning. You are usually "full tank" with a fast charger in less than forty minutes. Enough time to stop, plug in, get lunch/dinner, have a bathroom break, and be back out on the road.

In Arizona, we have long range issues greater than 200 miles and rural areas outside of Phoenix and Tucson. I need to be sure about refueling. The battery length of useful life and declining range as the battery gets older is a concern as is the fire hazard of the battery especially in 100+ degree heat in the Summer and the disposal and the environment for the acids in the battery. The increasing cost of electricity is sure to go up as the coal plants are phased out. It looks like the increase in nuclear electricity plants may have to be the answer to power all of the these EV cars. When they get cost effective that would be a good time to switch although the hydrogen cars seem like ultimately they are a better answer than battery cars. Time will tell.

I would be totally freaked out if I had to go from anywhere in the Phoenix Valley to Sedona or anywhere in the Verde Valley, VOC, Flag, etc.

I know what you mean.

It sound like y'all are driving the wrong EV, haha.  A trip to Sedona is easy from the East Valley and there shouldn't be any range anxiety, at least there isn't for me, haha.

Hi Paul,  Thank you for sharing the reasons you love your EV.   We have been thinking about getting one.  My wife drives a hybrid now, but we are looking to update.

Hello Paul - I am sure Brian England, another EV enthusiast, could be encouraged to join this discussion.  As I scrolled through the ActiveRain blog roll today, I noticed a post from you - I didn't recognize your name.

Upon closer "inspection" I see you have been "here" for a while - so a "welcome to AR" greeting seems a bit misplaced.   I hope you "visit" AR more often with a post.

The only drawback these days to owning an electric car is the fact that there is a serious lack of charging stations. This issue has also been highlighted in the context of Newo as a matter of fact. Everyone should check that out.
