It wasn't lightning, not even static electricity but I got zapped (figuratively) by my hard drive biting the dust on Thursday. Thus I spent time Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and even today trying to get another hard drive to work in the computer.

In the interest of full disclosure I have to say I didn't spend all that time just trying to fix one computer. I thought I might replace the computer with one of about 20 in my shed that I've been planning to work on.

I'm at the point where four days of tinkering without success is wearing thin on me.  The next tool I bring to the office may be my sledge hammer.

It's way past time that I get a new computer Anna Banana Kruchten Phoenix Broker BUT I've got 16 computers left in the shed to try out first. 🙃

It's the logical answer Carol Williams . The one that died served me very well for about 8 years and I bought it off of eBay for just a couple hundred bucks.

Bob "RealMan" Timm sometimes a sledgehammer is the only solution.  Other times buying a new fast machine works too.

I am sorry your hard drive died and you are dealing with the related technical issues. Not fun!

HI Bob... I do believe I'd have just gone out and purchased a new computer... no patience for that kind of tinkering.

I dodged the bullet for now Kathleen Luiten as I pulled one out of the shed that is actually running. However I need to upgrade it from Windows XP. It's a monster!

It is 21" tall and 8" wide and Timmothy had to carry it for me because it weighs a ton. It was the "production" computer at the radio station I work for on occasion.

As you know, I like to tinker Nina Hollander, Broker (my Love) BUT this was to much even for my patience with electronics.

I worked at a software company for 8 years.  We often went through the process of wondering what was best - fix, or replace.  Fortunately, I have a computer guru who lives next door.  He can assess things much faster than I.  And, he repairs more often than not, at a reasonable price.

After this last ordeal I'm thinking of removing the hard drives from all of them and sending them to the thrift store or the dump Lise Howe .
