The Price They Paid

By
Real Estate Agent with Casa Tierra Realty

Several years ago, I read an article on what happened to many of the signers of our Declaration of Independence.  I sent it to many friends as an example of what true sacrifice our founding fathers endured for what we take for granted.  I thought to send this again this 4th of July.  I discovered that the original article was not quite accurate, so I am attaching this link to balance the perspective.  It is a fascinating history of those times and is not at all diminished by the original inaccuracies.  I hope you take time to read it and to remember the true sacrifices of our founding fathers and the others who made our revolution successful.

If these guys were so smart, why didn't they think to put anti-gay marriage stipulations in The Constitution? Also, they should have thought to allow the government to spy on it's citizens with no judicial oversight, and put us all on trial with no due process. I guess they aren't as smart as we thought they were.

Israel, They never in their wildest imaginations forsaw that this country would ever need to address such issues. I'm sure they are rolling in their graves.

Bill, Great blog. We should all respect the sacrifice they made in their lives to make sure you and I and even Israel could live with the freedoms we enjoy today. Thank you for the reminder.

Cheri-Your sarcasm is funny. You don't get it and you never will. I guarantee our Founding Fathers would not stand for what is transpiring in this country. They knew only too well the dangers of allowing the central government to become to strong. A police state is what they didn't want.

Bill,

Good post!  I agree with Snopes that many others sacrificed much for this country and we should all do the same.

There are truths from Israel and Cheri' both!  They were different times.  How many people were employed back then?  Maybe 1%.  How about now?  Could it be 99%?  This one change changes a lot of things.  That is just ONE main difference between then and now.

And here I thought you were going to talk about how much the seller originally paid for the home. Tells you where my mind is. On real estate. LOL.

Oh, and Israel, I imagine our founding fathers did address gay marriage. Didn't they say everybody is created equal? Of course, we needed amendments to clarify just exactly who "everybody" is.

Israel,

God does discuss the issue and considers it sin!

Mike,

But God did not write our Declaration of Independence or our Constitution.  And remember, there are lots of contradictions in the bible.  Maybe God was testing us to see if we could figure out which of his comments were serious and which were a test.  Could it also be (Gasp!) that the translation was flawed.  Doesn't the bible say that of faith, hope and charity, love is the most important.

Bill- Excellent point. There is a separation between church and state for a very good reason. Every person in this country is considered equal under the law. It doesn't matter if they are gay, straight, black, white, Christian, Muslim, Hindu, etc.

Also, in the Bible, it is considered just as much of a sin to get a divorce and then remarry as it is to be a homosexual. It's amazing how much people will harp on one and not mention the other.

Israel, Nowhere in the constitution is there a seperation of Church and state. It is said that the government shall creat no laws to take away the rights of  people to worship as they choose.Seperation of Church and state is a 20th century fallacy. All of the current laws saying what can and can't be done are in direct contradiction to the constitution

Hugh- Nope. The separation between church and state is a very old ideal. If we were to let our laws and policies be dictated by the church we would be just like the Muslims. Irrational and dangerous.

Hugh- Your statements make no sense. What do you mean none of our laws are in The Constitution? The Constitution is the well spring from which all our laws are based. The more religious the government, the more unjust it is.

People in America today don't have a clue what sacrifice truly is... and it isn't going without the latest cell phone.
