The American flag has stood as a symbol of freedom and justice for over 225 years. Through wars and in times of peace, the sight of the American flag has given notice to foes and assurances to friends that democracy lives. No other symbol captures the power and glory of our nation like the American flag.
What is the proper way to address the flag?
Those not in uniform, should salute the flag by standing at attention, tall and straight, with the left arm at the side, and placing the right hand over the heart. Men who are wearing a hat should remove the hat with their right hand and hold it over their shoulder so that their right hand is over their heart.
Respecting the flag starts at an early age. Beautiful Beckett and Handsome Hudson respect the flag because their parents taught them it’s importance and why. Last night they were at the Q-2 Stadium watching our Austin FC soccer team play .Beckett immediately stood up (Handsome Hudson is right next to her) and needed no prompting to properly respect the flag. I find it interesting many around her didn’t extend the same respect and courtesy.
By the way Austin FC won and what an exciting game!
“We identify the flag with almost everything we hold dear on this earth, peace, security, liberty, our family, our friends, out home…But when we look at our flag and behold it emblazoned with all our rights we must remember that it is equally a symbol of our duties. Every glory that we associate with it is the result of duty done.” Calvin Coolidge
“I believe our flag is more than just cloth and ink. It is a universally recognized symbol that stands for liberty, and freedom. It is the history of our nation and it’s marked by the blood of those who died defending it.” John Thune
