Although the temps might not feel like it here in Los Angeles and other parts of California, it is March and spring is right around the corner. Observations by a Beverly Hills Realtor: Endre Barath, Jr.
Spring officially begins on March 20, and on March 12 we spring the clocks ahead. By the way, if anyone can shed some light on whether this is the last time we change the clocks, I'm all ears. Also, you may want to check on filing your taxes, it's possible that because of the recent severe weather in CA you could have an automatic extension to file or pay taxes. Check with your accountant or online for the latest information.
Another sure sign of Spring, the serious buyers are out there in full force asking how to make their dream home a reality in today’s real estate market. This question is one that all buyers and homeowners wanting to sell and move up are facing. My advice, based on over 50 years of watching and representing buyers and sellers, is that changing times in real estate creates opportunities for both savvy buyers and savvy sellers.
That means you must be resourceful, understand your options and choose wisely. As I've said before, one of those choices is to not take the media headlines as ‘truth’, rather get the facts from your trusted Realtor of choice. As an example, just a few days ago I saw real estate headlines that were discussing the activity of January; keep in mind, the market is much different in March than it was in January. Given how dynamic and evolving the real estate market is these days, in my opinion January is already historical information.
There is quite a bit going on, and just one example is that the interest rates for mortgages have increased to 7%; this may eliminate the non-savvy buyers who do not understand about rate buydowns. On the other hand, if a home is on the market, in good condition and well-priced, we are still seeing multiple offers from the buyers who do understand about pricing.
