For those of us of a "certain age", this should oughta be my theme song, especially around the holidays.
I remember seeing this live, loved Johnny, and love Bette (she's just so cute). And I've always enjoyed a good self-deprecating bit.
Personally, I miss a show like Johnny Carson used to put together. I do enjoy Fallon and Kimmel, but it's not the same. They're both geared to a younger crowd, of which I do not qualify.

Funny, The late night hosts are definitely not the same. Wonder if they even have a reckoning of the originals: Steve Allen or Jack Paar

Hello Alan - speaking of age and the history of remembering it - insert not-so-good Johnny Carson impersonation - it's a lot like comedy, isn't it?
Rich Little used to do a wonderful Carson impression. In fact I remember him doing an impression of Carson on the Tonight show, right in front of him, and Carson loved it.
Good morning, Alan... I now officially past that "certain age." I came of age in the days of Johnny Carson, Merv Griffin, Dick Cavett... they were so articulate, so clever, and so funny. They were all so good it was hard to decide which one to watch in the says before DVRs. Haven't watched late night shows in decades. To me they are not funny and I'm sick of all the politicizing on the shows today.
Carson, Griffin and Cavett certainly took on plenty of politicos.
Johnny Carson was just one of a kind. He put so much humor and entertainment in his shows!!!

I LOVED watching Jonny Carson. I watched every night and loved is Carnac the magnificent.....you really belly laughed and weren't concerned with offending someone..it was HUMOR!! Something we are sorely lacking with the current late night hosts!

Hi Alan- I watched Johnny Carson and I didn't care who the guest was because he made every guest shine!!! He didn't rely on making snarky political jokes and when he did enter into that arena, the jokes were equal opportunity. And I've always loved Bette Midler!!! Loved watching this.
