If you missed Wanda Kubat-Nerdin - Wanda Can! question a few days ago you can find it HERE. It has inspired other posts and certainly caused many laughs and chuckles. It has also given me a good reason to share this (the above) cartoon by Timmothy.

I think most of us have seen something at a listing or possible listing that made us lose or almost lose our lunch. Number one for me was a cat story as is/was Wanda's but mine was a "Cat Person's" home where every wall in the good sized two story home were urine soaked from 3' down and most of the woodwork was used as scratching posts with one support beam in the basement being whittled down to the size of a pencil.

We have always been a "with pet(s)" family. The kids had a dog even before they were born and fish, hamsters, guinea pigs, and birds. None of which were compatible with cats. Thus, to head of the question, "Dad can we have a cat?" I took them to this house and showed them what a cat can do to a home.

That plan seemed to have work as today, about a dozen years later, they have never asked if we could get a cat. Only time will tell if either one will have a cat when they are on their own. If they do I'm going to warn them to make sure the heat vents are fastened down (as per Wanda's story).

Now I have to go check out Wanda Kubat-Nerdin - Wanda Can! post.. that being said, I don't think your experience reflects what it's like to own cats at all! Everyone I know with cats has zero smell in their home---but they are all responsible and loving pet owners and it sounds like those homeowners were most certainly not. Yikes. Feel bad for their pets!!

That sounds terrible Kathleen Daniels, Probate & Trust Specialist (the dead body smell). I "may have" is correct BUT Tina is very independent and she will do what she wants to do.

Ray Henson in North Dakota we were very lucky to totally skip the recession as that is when we hit oil big time. Still I have seen some real messes due to the first wave of oil workers. Many knew from experience that when a boom comes to an area it's easy to mislead people. They would buy houses, never make a single payment and when eviction time came around they were already done with their part of the oil business and back home in TX or where ever.

I have a super sensitive nose myself Will Hamm so it sends me running as well. It wasn't easy for me to show my kids that house but I thought it was very important.

Lise Howe I don't think pet odor is always animal neglect, in fact I think it is usually familiarity or a damaged sense of smell. Every cat owner I've ever met told me their litter box doesn't smell.... about 30% were correct from my experience.

Thank you Bob,

Great post inspired by Wanda Kubat-Nerdin - Wanda Can!I have no idea why people allow animals to destroy their homes. I've seen some families have cats and no one knew they were in the house, other than seeing their potty box. No smells! Then there are others!! Nothing worse than bad odors!!

I have had the same experience with cat owners Dorie Dillard Austin TX . Your comment reminds me of the times I've heard couches barking but never saw a dog (my sister had one of those).

Hi Bob- I consulted on a home that had 4 (or  5, I can't remember) English Mastiffs. The owner had candles lit in every room. They'd let the dogs have full run of the house, including allowing them to sleep on their sofa and pee in a corner of the family room. I got home and totally showered and changed my clothes. Disgusting.

That does sound disgusting Kathy Streib .  Mastiffs are very large dogs and I imagine one tinkle would be as bad or worse then a human peeing in the corner of the house.

Gross. I can't believe people allow that to happen. It is possible to have pets with no smells.

Have been there, lol.  Much more when we were in the recession than over the last 10 years, it seemed to happen a lot during the years of 2009-2011.

Not sure what your problem with cats is, Bob. I've had cats since I was 5 years old and until recently usually more than one. No smells in my house. You could eat off the floors in my house.

I agree Kat Palmiotti that it is possible to have pets without odors. Guinea pigs can be very stinky and I was always letting Timmothy know he had to change their litter (which he would do immediately after my order).

You have to wonder why that was Bob Jakowinicz . Did people just give up hope? You would think that if they were home more they would care more. 😩

Truth be told Nina Hollander, Broker the problem is not with the dogs or cats them selves, it's with owners who just should not be pet owners period. Currently I am dealing with someone in the neighborhood who lets their cat out (we have a leash law) and it pisses in our window well. If the cats owner was a responsible owner I would not have an issue with the cat. As it is I will be trapping that cat and I will be relocating it far from our neighborhood.
