Spring Forward - Daylight Savings Time
March 12, 2023, at 2 am the clocks will spring forward one hour.
Port Arthur, Ontario, Canada was the first city in the world to enact DST or daylight savings time on 1 July 1908. This was followed by Orillia, Ontario and it became commonplace around the world from around April 1916 as a way to conserve coal during wartime. Most countries abandoned DST in the years following the end of the war except Canada, The United Kingdom, France, Ireland, and the United States. In the 1970's it was re-enacted again during the energy crisis.
I was curious about what countries still follow DST and many no longer do. There was talk about doing away with it in the United States too but the bill did not pass. So, clocks will continue to spring forward on the second Sunday in March and will end or fall back on the first Sunday in November for some time yet.
