Charlotte FC 2023: Building on Inaugural Success and Looking to Make a Playoff Run
Charlotte, NC quickly became a sports mecca with the addition of a new Major League Soccer (MLS) team in 2022. The city is a-buzz with support for our newest sports team, Charlotte FC.
As the 2023 season for Major League Soccer (MLS) is just underway, anticipation is building for Charlotte FC's second year in the league. The team, which made its debut in 2022, had a solid inaugural season and is looking to build on that success. Although our team hasn’t started well these first two games, the year is young!
Charlotte FC finished their first season with a 12-14-8 record, narrowly missing out on the playoffs. However, the team showed flashes of brilliance throughout the season, including a 5-0 thrashing of the New York Red Bulls and a 4-2 victory over rivals Atlanta United. They also played in front of some of the largest crowds in the league, with an average attendance of over 24,000 fans per game.
Charlotte FC made several key signings to bolster their roster this year. In the offseason, the team signed experienced MLS veterans such as midfielder Dax McCarty and defender Jeff Attinella, as well as international players like Brazilian forward Brenner and Colombian midfielder Jaminton Campaz. These additions should provide depth and experience to a team that already showed promise in its first season.
Charlotte FC will also be looking to build on the success of its youth academy, which produced several talented players in 2022, including teenage sensation Efan Ekoku. The team has made it a priority to invest in youth development, with plans to build a world-class training facility and academy in the near future.
Off the field, the team has been active in the Charlotte community, with players and staff participating in various initiatives to give back to the city. They have also been vocal in their support for social justice causes, with the team wearing special jerseys during the 2022 season to raise awareness for the fight against racial inequality.
As Charlotte FC’s second season is underway, expectations are high for the team to make a playoff run and establish itself as a competitive force in the MLS. With a talented roster, a committed ownership group, and an uber-passionate fanbase, the future looks bright for soccer in Charlotte.
