Wordless Wednesday…Wee Ones
The wait is over. We have our first brood of bluebirds for 2023!!
Larry and I volunteer to monitor and maintain bluebird boxes at Kickerillo-Mischer Preserve where we take our daily walks. We have 5 boxes now but this particular one has been the most productive.
I think that the hard freeze and snow we had in February of 2021 impacted all wildlife and plants. We have no idea how many birds were lost that year but since then the boxes have not seen as many nests.
We report our stats to a site that monitors wildlife. In fact, Larry gets a reminder if he hasn’t logged in every few days after the eggs have been laid. We check the nest at least every other day and continue to do so until just before they are ready to fledge. (We stop checking the box so the birds will not want to leave too soon)
We have another nest that looks like it’s move-in ready. The “buyers” may be waiting for the appraisal or inspection.
