belt searcy ar fashion of yesterday

Remember when fancy belts for women were popular?

The lovely Searcy lady who wore these belts died in 1999. I obtained them from an estate sale that was held at her home near downtown Searcy AR.  They are not very big around (remember when ideal waist size was 25") so she was a slim and graceful lady.  This fashion was popular in  1970's or 1980's If I remember correctly.

She had an important friend, the mother of Cher! Click for blog.  https://activerain.com/droplet/8GDg.  Cher's mother lived in Searcy for awhile.  She called herself by the name Georgia Holt..  Georgia was born Jackie Jean Crouch near Searcy Arkansas. She came to live with her Aunt Zela Croom during the late 1930's when her parents separated.  She worked in the Croom Cafe, reportedly the only restaurant in Searcy at the time.  During that time she met Frances and they became good friends.

You may realize we are talking about Frances Quattlebaum, forever remembered for Quattlebaum Music Store in downtown Searcy.  I need a good picture of her. The memory appears of her walking along the streets from her home at 210 W. Center to the music store on court square, always graceful and lovely.  Perhaps Searcy Seuths will supply one.

And, while we are begging, how about some info about Croom Cafe??

Those were some tiny waistlines for sure. And yes, fancy belts were the rage.

Old movies now show women with 25" waistlines.  It seems impossible.

I actually still have some very interesting belts in my closet. Don't wear them often, but do pull on out every so often and always get compliments.

They do seem sorta collectible.  That is why I have these.

Oh my, those look similar to belts I still have in my closet.  I guess it's time to give them to the historical society.🙂

Right!  But I think these need to belong to the family!

Oh my, I have a very similar belt like the top one (which I think is dark brown in your photo) inside my closet.

Seriously, does anyone still wear belts? I haven't belts worn in decades.

Barbara S. Duncan - Not me! No amount of exercise after childbearing could ever shrink it back to where it was and it just kept expanding.

Fashion belts for women have always been fascinating. I have one to show.

It's a Navajo Indian sterling silver  with turquoise ovals bought in Arizona in the 50's.

It was given to my first wife, Martha, and my daughter has it now. Here is a pic of her wearing it. It's about 30" waist size.

Here's the belt laid out full length.
