Are you an effective communicator?

By
Real Estate Agent with Wayne M Martin

In March of 2012 I wrote the following post:

Do you consider yourself a good communicator? Do you speak in a clear voice with well organized thoughts? Do people seek your advice because you have a reputation of being of clear thought and speaking to the point? These are questions I seem to ask myself all the time. Sometimes, when I am honest with myself, I do not like the answer and seek to improve my ability to communicate.

As I go through this exercise I am reminded of the following: "My ability to communicate is enhanced with my ability to listen."

Since March of 2012 I have been on a constant journey to improve my communication skills. On the journey I have fallen off the wagon when I race to respond and fail to listen. The more I first seek to clearly understand the more effective my response. Funny how that seems to work. I remain a work in progress.

Enjoy your day.

Improving one's communication skills is a lifelong journey that requires consistent effort and self-reflection, and an essential aspect of effective communication is listening actively to others.

Hi Wayne-Here's to being a Work in Progress!!! It's a lot better than remaining stagnant. Being a good communicator isn't just about how well you speak but also about how well  you listen.

I think that I communicate well, but I know that I would do better if I improved my listening skills. Learning to listen well takes practice.

This is SO  true, and so many people do not really listen, or constantly interrupt.  Annoying!
