It is great to live in a community with so many different cultures, beliefs, backgrounds from all over the world. Many times, I meet people and love to hear their stories, careers and where they are from. Maybe how they decided to move to The Villages, Florida and for what reasons. From a Hollywood music producer to a big named artist to a First Responder from New England, from a retired doctor to a mother of six children, they are all here. One of the common themes of the social clubs in The Villages is giving back and here are the words of the African American Club:
“The African American Club of The Villages (TAAC) is a non-profit 501(c) (3) organization that sponsors social and cultural activities to promote goodwill and friendship among our members and members of other organizations in our area. TAAC supports civic activities, and we provide scholarships to deserving college-bound students in the local high schools.
We hope you will plan to join us and get involved in the many fun activities that we offer. Some of our monthly activities include Saturday bowling, card games twice each week, Saturday golf scrambles, and mentoring high school students. Each year we sponsor a student scholarship luncheon, Juneteenth celebration, Christmas dance and New Year’s Eve party. That’s not all! TAAC members fulfill our civic duty by participating in the Sumter County Adopt- a- Precinct Program. We volunteer at the election phone bank and operate the voting precinct.
Our members may live in a retirement community, but we are very active! We also show love and support to one another during times of need. We are truly family!”
What are your interest? We have over 2,900 social clubs here and if there is an interest you have and no club, start one!
