Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker Realty RES.0808054

Welcome, pizza aficionados! If you're on the hunt for the most outstanding pizza places in New Haven, CT, you're in luck. In this article, we reveal five must-visit pizzerias that have secured spots among the best pizzas in America. Believe us, these heavenly slices are not to be missed! Having experienced all these pizzerias personally, we can attest to their exceptional quality, with Pepe's topping our list of favorites.

1. Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana: The Undisputed Champion

Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana holds the crown for the best pizza in the United States. Established in 1925, this legendary pizzeria has delighted taste buds with its mouth-watering pies for nearly a century. Their most renowned creation is the white clam pizza, an unconventional yet delectable treat that's a must-try for any pizza connoisseur.

2. Sally's Apizza: A Family Legacy of Flavor

Sally's Apizza, another New Haven staple, was founded by Salvatore Consiglio, Frank Pepe's nephew and former employee. With a dedicated fan base that boasts big names like Bill Clinton and Frank Sinatra, Sally's is famed for its thin-crust, coal-fired pizzas. The slightly charred edges add a delightful crunch and smoky flavor that's impossible to resist.

3. Modern Apizza: A Taste of New Haven's Pizza History

Dating back to 1934, Modern Apizza is steeped in New Haven pizza lore. What began as a bakery selling pizza on the side has evolved into a bustling pizzeria with lines stretching out the door on weekends. Sink your teeth into their signature Italian Bomb, a pizza piled high with bacon, sausage, pepperoni, mushroom, onion, and garlic.

4. BAR: Pizza, Brews, and Nightlife

Though the acronym for Brewery And Restaurant may lack originality, BAR excels in offering thin-crust, wood-fired pizzas alongside an extensive beer selection and vibrant nightlife scene. Choose from an array of toppings to customize your pie, or opt for their unique Mashed Potato pizza, a scrumptious combination of mashed potatoes, bacon, and cheese.

5. Zuppardi's Apizza: West Haven's Brick Oven Gem

Just a stone's throw away in West Haven, Zuppardi's Apizza continues the tradition of exceptional pizza making, passed down by founder Dominic Zuppardi's father-in-law, owner of the revered Mike's Apizza. Hand-stretched and baked in a traditional brick oven, Zuppardi's specialties include the fresh clam pizza—a white pie adorned with freshly shucked clams.

Good morning Jon. Living in a pizza Mecca, Chicago, I have come to the conclusion that the best pizza is the one you individually like. Ask 3 peolple and you are likely to get 5 opinions. Enjoy your day.

Outside of a couple of frozen options, there isn't a bad pizzaa out there!  I might be partial to the thin crust coal fired pizzas popular in New Haven, but I grew up having them.

I have enjoyed the first 2 but would place Sallys above his uncle's.

Jon Sigler for me Pepe's and Sally's are a cut above the rest, and very much worth the drive from Middletown to New Haven to get some.

Love that there is a Pepe's in Manchester not far from where I live.  Sure it isn't New Haven, but when I close my eyes and remember it is around the corner, it makes for a good quick fix!
