Love! Rescue! Adopt! It's National Puppy Day!

March 23rd is National Puppy Day!

Love! Rescue! Adopt!

"Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole."

... Roger Carras

Who can resist a puppy? I know I can't! National Puppy Day was started in 2006 by Colleen Paige to bring awareness about homeless puppies in need of a caring and safe homes, as well as to make the public more aware of the horrors of puppNational Puppy Day March 23rdy mills. The official slogan of National Puppy Day is "Love. Rescue. Adopt."

“You can usually tell that a man is good if he has a dog who loves him.”

... W. Bruce Cameron

All of my dogs have been adopted, not "shopped." And without a doubt they have been very much loved!  I never fail to be appalled by the thought of so many shelters in the Greater Charlotte area alone that house and foster puppies waiting for adoption. The numbers are staggering.

“Everybody should have a shelter dog. It’s good for the soul.”

... Paul Shaffer

HOW YOU CAN SUPPORT NATIONAL PUPPY DAY

  • Make a monetary donation to a local shelter.

  • Make a contribution of supplies to a local shelter--they will tell you what they need. And that information is also often available on-line on a shelter's website.

  • Adopt a puppy at your local shelter and give it a great home and lots of love. The love you give will be returned in spades! These animals just somehow know you are their rescuer and love you forever for it!

It's National Puppy Day today... don't let the day pass without doing something nice in support of this cause! You'll be glad you did! By the way, if you're in the process of buying a house think about how much a loving puppy will help turn that house into a real home!

“When the dog looks at you, the dog is not thinking what kind of a person you are. The dog is not judging you.”

... Eckhart Tolle

Puppies are the most trusting and joyous creatures on the planet.
Oh, to be more like a puppy.
~
Colleen Paige

{founder of National Puppy Day}

“My fashion philosophy is, if you’re not covered in dog hair, your life is empty.”
... Elayne Boosler

WHERE TO ADOPT A PUPPY IN THE CHARLOTTE REGION:

“If you don’t own a dog, at least one, there is not necessarily anything wrong with you, but there may be something wrong with your life.”

... Roger A Caras

Puppies go really fast out of our shelter Nina Hollander, Broker and I think that is great. What we need the most is adopt an old dog day as that is what is really filling up our shelter here and Minot ND. Old dogs and cats... lots and lots of cats.

Bob "RealMan" Timm same here, Bob. And that's why whenever I adopt, I always adopt an adult dog or cat.

Kathy Streib I hate to admit it, Kathy, but I know a lot my neighbors by their dog's names! And I often meet someone in the neighborhood who knows me only as Bingo's Mom! :)))

Good afternoon Nina. My wife has advised me that when we make the move to the suburbs, we will be adding a dog via a rescue or adoption. Enjoy your day.

Nina loved your post!!! yes adopt why buy? It pisses me off when I hear people buying pets from breeders... when there are thousands of discarded pets looking for a loving homes... just to be clear all our pets have been rescues, or they knocked on our door and asked to be let in like Jack RIP and Wiley:)Endre

Wayne Martin good morning, Wayne... I like how your wife thinks. After our Gracie passed it took us three plus years to acquire a new dog. Now, after almost three years with Bingo I can't imagine life without a dog.

Endre Barath, Jr. good morning, Endre... I'm with you... why spend thousands of dollars to buy a pet when you can adopt... and if you're looking for a specific breed there are plenty of shelters specializing in breeds. No dog or cat has knocked on my door... but the Charlotte shelter is quite familiar with me after all these years.

I hope that all of the puppies that need a good home will be given one sooner, rather than later.

Brian England I'm with you, Brian... because when they are no longer puppies, it's even harder to adopt them out.

I hope your post will encourage families to adopt a pet.

We do not have pets but our home has some interesting pet friendly features.

We have a cedar lined cat closet in our basement with a cat portal from the stairway.

We also have a dog bath in the basement which is near the door to the stairs that lead to a fenced dog run beside our home.

Hi Roy... I built a dog bath/shower in the garage of my last house and then never used it even once. We just took the dogs for grooming. Your dog-friendly features will certainly help you sell your home one day.

Lise Howe thanks, Lise. These days I just have one pup and one cat to love. The days of multiple dogs and cats in my home are over.
