Curb Appeal
First Impressions Count when SELLING a Home
Curb Appeal in real estate talk is in my opinion a concept in which a potential home buyer visualizes or imagines what the interior of the home could like that based upon what they see from the outside, all before they walk into the house, or even step foot on the driveway. Simply put curb appeal is the aesthetics of a property as viewed or seen street view. Curb appeal is akin to the culinary world that we eat with our eyes first.
Do an assessment of your home’s curb appeal at all times of the day, dawn, day, at night and during the season(s) your home will be on the market.
The following items are for a homeowner to enhance curb appeal without breaking the bank or damaging a wallet. So first we must ask ourselves, “What message does the front of your house give?”
Landscape
If we start with the landscape, a dull and boring landscape might lend the homeowner to create a landscaping design for the front yard. It doesn’t have to be big or expensive but just enough to create an aesthetic or otherwise welcoming appearance. Aside from dull and boring you may have shrubs that aren’t attractive and dead trees. One or both items may need to be trimmed, maintained, or replaced.
Do you ever not know or guess which entrance is used as the main entrance? Admit it, sometimes you just don’t. The aesthetics or the curb appeal in the front yard should lend a clue as to where the preferred entrance is. On the topic of entrance do you all season Halloween Décor, meaning do you take care of the spider webs etc. after or before Halloween (I’m guilty sometimes). So, ensure your doorway is free of spider webs, cobwebs, and other hanging debris. After you have cleared the previously mentioned clutter from the doorway it wouldn’t hurt to brighten it up if necessary, using paint or just a good cleaning.
Lighting
Lighting could be another item to look at, ensure the lighting is adequate for all times of the day and in good repair. Assess whether the lighting should be changed or if no action is necessary.
Decorations
Holiday decorations are awesome but know when it’s time to remove them, however if there ensure they are working as required, season appropriate and ensure that they don’t constitute a tripping or a fire hazard.
Advertisements etc. should be reviewed to ensure they don’t constitute a distraction or otherwise out of context or present themselves as a tripping hazard.
