It is hard to believe that fifty years have passed since the final American military forces left Vietnam and our remaining prisoners of war were returned. I still see myself glued to the TV in the West Point Lounge watching people scrambling out of the American Embassy in Hanoi. I was a Plebe aka. Freshman. |

|
During this conflict, political controversy and disagreement were sadly misdirected toward those who had admirably served our nation. I still recall watching and seeing the protests that were against those who served in the Viet Nam War.
The soldiers who served received neither a hero’s welcome nor appreciation for their service that they deserved. Instead, they were accused as baby killers, murderers and all they received was anger and hate from those who did not know any better.

After their wartime service ended, these veterans went to work, served in government and became involved in their communities. Vietnam War-era veterans went on to lead Fortune 500 companies to name a few.
Not sure if you are aware but, today, there are approximately 6 million living veterans from the Vietnam era that is more than 30% of the America’s veteran population.

Tomorrow March 29th is – National Vietnam War Veterans Day – and is dedicated to these heroes. |
|
The 50th National Vietnam War Veterans Day is a national opportunity to share our appreciation for the sacrifices made by a generation of veterans. It is also a way to apologize to them for being mistreated.
If you know a Viet Nam Veteran please go out of your way and thank them for their courage and service to our nation. This post is dedicated to Kathy Streib husband a Viet Nam Veteran
