To Live Poetically. . .

While I attempt to limit time spent on Facebook, there are certain must-visits on the site where I do stop.  While time management can be challenging, the control I have has proven an achievable solution when practiced.

I admit the daily birthday reminders come in handy although I have missed more than a few candle blowouts.  And a group from a long-ago career allows me to stay aware and can be kinda fun too.  And then there is someone who posts once, maybe twice, a week who I referenced in a previous post.

Chris Erskine is a former Los Angeles Times columnist who I have read over the years.  He has retired from that job but continues to share his thoughts on whatever is going on in his head and around him.  This line from a recent posting says a lot to me:

You don’t need to be a poet to live poetically.

Chris Erskine

Hi Michael,
I've never thought of living life poetically, but maybe I do. I try to live with imagination and sensitivity, and that does seem to fit within the definition of "poetically".

Michael Jacobs  You are a wise man! There are not enough hours in a day to catch up on everything. I also check up on Birthdays but there are times I miss important messages. So much to do so little time.

I agree with those words from Chris Erskine, Michael.  I hope you have a poetic week!

You don’t need to be a poet to live poetically.

A great thought and one that would require minimum effort to achieve.

Hi Michael- what a wonderful quote. Like Dorie Dillard Austin TX I went to his website and started going down the rabbit hole of reading his columns!!!  I used to follow Craig Wilson when he was a columnist with USA Today. Thank you for introducing me to someone else I will look forward to reading.

Kathy Streib - while he lives in the suburbs of Los Angeles, his writing seems quite relatable to me beyond the boundaries of SoCal.

Hi Michael,

I remember that name.  We used to get the Sunday Times.  It must have weighed 4 pounds back in the day.  We all should try to live our life poetically.

I like the birthday reminders on Facebook.

And, I spend too much time on Facebook as I participate in a number of groups that share photographs.

Roy Kelley - I agree with you about the FB BD reminders.  Beyond those do you enjoy it?  Do you find it beneficial?

There is an abundant number of choices available to each of us.  When it comes to possibilities and perspective, my mind turns to thoughts of pondering. . .

Enjoy your day - it looks like it's going to be another rain-free day in Southern California.  At least, so far.

As you know, photography is my hobby. I have a world wide following on Facebook. My ego enjoys the special recognition. I really should move on from ActiveRain and focus on Facebook and other sites. I also post on Twitter and Pinterest every day.

We have a sunny spring day in Maryland. 71 degrees as I post this comment.

Roy Kelley - it's interesting how our passion (s) develop (s) and what "powers" them to grow.

Today was a nice Wednesday and it is predicted that there will be more of the same.  Of course, things can change.  Each day proves to be an adventure in one way or another.

Michael, it was fun reading all your comments, and the common thread, less time now spent on FB.   BUT, that is probably not the stats I have heard, just from those here in the Rain.

Joan Cox - it's interesting, at least to me, to "see" and "hear" reports of participation in any activity.  Information gathered can be "factual" - "anecdotal" "conjecture" "interpretation" as well as all sorts of combinations of those and other words.  Yes, interesting. . .

As with all of  your posts, very thought provoking!  Out of curiosity, I googled that phrase.  Wow - it has it's own website!  The links on the site don't work for "about" or "here's what you can do" so a bit defeating, but the overarching theme of building a bridge makes sense.

Michael I have never been a Poet but went to the same school as Edgar Alan Poe:) now in all fairness my father thought me to love Poetry and I have a handful of favorite poets, not sure if I live poetically or philosophically, I tend to think philosophically is more me than I care to admit.

Endre Barath, Jr. - I don't have a close relationship with poetry. Although I "have been introduced" to many poems over my years, it would be difficult to choose a favorite as my familiarity with the body of their works is quite limited.

Real estate is an art. How you do it can be graceful poetry and made to look easy when it is a passion. We are all beginners and reinvent the list/twist/sell (repeat) daily. Love  where you live and it will show. Have fun, the movie of life is a short one. Don't look in the rear view with regrets Michael Jacobs .

Andrew Mooers | 207.532.6573 - your comment is a good reminder of the saying/quote about the size of the windshield of a car versus its rear view mirror.

So true but those truckers have some pretty big west coast mirrors and back up cameras Michael Jacobs . Some would argue "rip off the rear view mirror of life and regret" and unless you woke up dead, begin again but armed with wisdom, lessons learned.

I have always not fully understood or appreciated poetry -- even the word turns me off.  I am a musician all my life - started performing on stages at 3 yrs. old and spent all my life in music.  Poetry, 'NO.'  But I was interested enough to do a little research and I liked this one explanation on living a poetic life:
live your life as an artist and the world as your canvas.
           (quote has many authors)

Jane Chaulklin-Schott - interpretation is explored in countless ways.  My relationship with poetry remains complicated.  And confused too.

Poetically has been defined as living and expressing in imaginative, sensitive, emotional, in-depth and feeling style of expressions. I can see where we can live this and not necessarily be writing or reading or even loving poetry.
