Just as all of us have over reacted to others at times I'm sure we can all remember times when someone has over reacted to a comment or action we initiated. We watch a lot of comedies at our house and over reactions are a lot of fun when you are watching them on television.

An over reaction can bring out a lot of stress to all parties involved. As professionals we need to be on guard to making and over reacting to others over reactions. An over reaction on the job is never comedic or called for.

Real Estate is a profession for the "cool headed" professional. Hot headed people need not apply. If you are a new licencee and you have a bit of a tempter I'd advice you to start getting counseling in people skills and anger management before you end up in front of your State Board or in a legal conundrum.

What a great tie in to the comic strip..our profession has no room for angry, condescending, hot heads (yet I can think of a few). keeping our cool, working to problem solve for our clients is the only way to practice real estate

Hello Bob - knee-jerk reactions can lead to many unintended consequences.   However, knee-slapping comedy can be quite funny.  And intentionally so.

Amen Dorie Dillard Austin TX . While I did NOT come in to this business as a flaming hot head I certainly had been one in the past. A good sales professional needs to be humble and think through scenarios before reacting.

So true Michael Jacobs . We have really enjoyed many TV "moments" that included knee jerk reactions.

One moment on WKRP in Cincinnati I'll never forget was Les Nessman was lamenting about going bald. He was supposed to be on the air and he forgot. Venus Flytrap told him he had "Dead Air" but Les heard it as "Dead Hair". Les's reaction was priceless.

Bob "RealMan" Timm - a classic comedy series although I don't immediately recall that episode.  Les Nesman, Venus Flytrap and the rest of the characters certainly made an excellent ensemble.

Hiring Brokers should get to know applicants before hiring just anyone Doug Dawes as it seems most don't care as long as they have a warm body that might sell a home to a friend or relative.

Hi Bob- while I have been  known to have knee-jerk reactions in my head or in private, if I am in my "professional" mode, I have very calm. I've had friends tell me that they would want me around in an emergency.

Hi Bob I don't go off the wall in stressful times or if  I'm dealing with an off the wall hot head. There have been a few over the years.  One in particular was yelling at me and I simply told him to call me back when he had control over his emotions.  Then I hung up. He called back and started in again.  Same thing.....call me back ONLY when you have control over your emotions.  That took him awhile!!  Trust me if he had continued one call to his broker and that would be that.

We all find ourselves in "situations" where emotions can run high ... It's in those times that I rely on a sound word ... Proverbs 15:1 "A soft word turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger."

A fool gives full vent to his anger, but a wise man keeps himself under control.  This verse contrasts two of the most mentioned characters in Proverbs 29:11 -- the "fool" and the "wise man". The fool's focus and attitudes cause him to openly display his "anger" when things don't go his way.
