How Important is Mature Landscaping to You?

By
Real Estate Agent with TOUCHSTONE REAL ESTATE

Mature landscaping is a question I ask somebody looking to relocate to The Villages, Florida.  We have it all here where in the north homes were built 20 to 30 years ago and back then they did their best to save trees to today where they clear cut 100’s of acres for building new homes.  In my opinion it just feels different when the skyline is filled with both oak and palm trees versus new short palm trees and no mature trees.

It’s not about me but want to share, I live in the north end, maybe it’s my Pennsylvania, Maryland background growing up in the Appalachian Mountains of Southern Pennsylvania.  I love trees and have a 50-foot oak tree in my back yard and most of my neighbors have mature trees.  When we bought our home the original sales agreement and plans were in the home, it shows planting my oak tree in 1993 and another on my property that might be 30 feet.

Want the full effect of mature landscaping?  Let me know we will find it!

Good morning Dick. The Villages has many opportunities. Look for your phone to start ringing from citizens of Chicago looking to flee. Just saying. Enjoy your day.

So sad to read of the recent election results.  What a shame such a great city will continue to decline. It will be like New York City.

I think that mature landscaping is very good for the environment and every community should have plenty of it.  I wouldn't want to have to maintain it myself though, haha.

Some people love landscaped with no trees and some love trees - I have clients who specifically said "we don't want anything flat and boring" but others love that look.

In areas that get hit by hurricanes, a lot of mature trees take a beating.

I’m fine either way. They each have their pros and cons. With all of the weather we have been receiving, I wish the old oak tree I have was 30-40 foot shorter. I do like older trees, but there is a potential for loss. I like newer landscaping around the house though. I’ve been pruning the holly bushes, boxwoods, and taxus’ and wish they were 20 years younger. So to sum it up I think of landscaping as the greenery around the house, and trees as their own greenery.

The plantings, that some people call the 'ginger bread' of the property makes for better eye appeal, as well as the increased value it brings to the home.

Mature landscaping out here may include a tree or too, but usually colored gravel and plants constructed from metal artwork.  Desert landscaping is quite different than the Midwest with all its trees, green lawns and flowers.

Fortunately we have a Mondel Pine in our front yard that is probably 30 years old. Also we have a tree line running south to north along part of our property. The  trees are Mesquite and Palo Verde. Our home is nearly 40 years old. The original owners planted a few trees.
