In Honor of Jimmy Carter
I was saddened to hear that Jimmy Carter was going into hospice. Whether you agree with his politics or approved of his job as President of the United State, I think most people agree that Jimmy Carter is a good person.
His work with Habitat for Humanity has always been an inspiration to me. When I was a high school kid in New Jersey, my church group spent a weekend volunteering in Trenton. We worked in the soup kitchen, organized clothes in the donation closet, and because we weren't old enough to build, we worked to rip out all the burned materials in a home that had been consumed by a fire. Older folks would rebuild that home after we were done.
We left that home covered in soot and exhausted. I couldn't wait to be old enough to be on the building crew.
A few years ago some women invited me to join Hardhats-N-Heels, their Habitat for Humanity Team. The first year I helped build a fence around a home. The second year I installed the windows in a home. There were a few years off due to Covid and the lack of building supplies. This year we are back!
Can you spare $10 to help build a family a home?
On June 9th, my Habitat for Humanity team, Handhats-N-Heels, will be building a home for and with a family in Maryland. Please support my efforts by visiting my page at https://give.classy.org/SheBuilds.
