Faking Artificial Intelligence. . .

Faking Artificial Intelligence

Randomness Really Reigns. . .

The recent rain is taking a bit of a respite in my SoCal neighborhood so my mind wanders. It will likely wind its way to wondering. Does weather impact what's storming in my mind? And what about questions related to whether? Beyond conjunction or conjecture. . .

When one decides to take the temperature of any situation, thoughts can go in many directions. I discover and explore this as well as that as the seconds become minutes, then longer.

Fakery, sleight of hand trickery and many elements of reality combine in attempts to explain what is happening around me. There can be confusion. Controversy and conflict may occur too. Is it imagined or has it been designed with all of that in mind?

I have long been intrigued by intelligence although it tends to avoid me - both naturally acquired and by any artificial means. That stage was sought and set as my mind recalls the one-woman play from many years ago with Lily Tomlin The Search For Intelligent Signs of Life. I was fortunate to see it in New York City and Los Angeles.

Seeking increased knowledge beyond my understanding continues. I wander. Wonder too. Really.

I have taken part in many discussions of the difference between knowledge and wisdom. Knowledge without wisdom is useless. I enjoy reading the Word written by the author of wisdom (His name is God Almighty).

Michael Jacobs - Lily Tomlin was superb in "The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the University." Its no wonder there are so many problems passed down through generations, no thanks to "Faking Artificiall Intelligence." The baby boomer generations went bonkers with negative self-image, constant fear, feelings of insecurity, not fitting in, ERA, sexual revolution, etc.

Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP - I seem to remember hearing (or maybe it was overhearing since children were to be seen, not heard) talk of the good old days.  That discussion seems likely to be passed down through the generations.

Hi Michael, I find AI very interesting, but wonder how it will impact our lives and business in the future. I wonder if we'll be able to determine what is real and what's AI?

Barbara Michaluk - it continues to provide much discussion and conversation.  As for answers, it looks as if questions are still leading in that race.

Michael:

I never saw that Lily Tomlin play, and am sorry to have missed it. She is an amazing talent. But perhaps the movie is as good?

After reading your post you certainly have ME pondering about AI, intelligence or lack of, and other things. Who knows where my mind will wander now. I wonder?!

Jeff Dowler, CRS - Lily Tomlin has had (and continues to have) a noteworthy career.  The play with another star made a brief return in Los Angeles last year or earlier this year.  I didn't see it.

Hi Michael, I think the evolution of AI might be a bit scary for now, but I've always thought of mathematicians and their fear of losing their jobs when the modern calculator was invented. After a few years, they're both still around, making new mathematical discoveries one step at a time.

Ritu Desai 703-625-4949 - I can see how your example of the calculator might add up for some.   Then again, it may just as likely divide others.  Multiplying the issue with other advances in mathematics could even make the entire subject reduced in size.  And maybe "sighs" too.  Would that be exponential?

Michael, I am so hoping that as Artificial Intelligence advances, we will see major positive steps in Medical Sciences and Health Care.  As health care professionals and personnel are relieved of mundane tasks, they may be able to devote valuable time to finding cures.

LOVED Lily Tomlin in everything she was in but, I was not as fortunate as you to have seen her in person.

As for AI, I've done some research and am not a huge fan of 'general' use of it - for students, bloggers, etc. The creators of AI are even warning Congress that there needs to be some regulations - and soon.

Of course, the lingering nurse in me hopes that something remarkable can be done with AI to treat a variety of patients. While I feel that there is a lot of negative publicity about AI - and it can be indeed, quite scary - my hopes are that it will be put to good use as far as medical diagnoses, the treatment of symptoms and giving other patients their speech back, etc. Christopher Reeve comes to mind.

I believe we will see some incredible medical advancements with the use of AI in the very near future...at least I hope so!
