Motivational Monday…Aim High
We have a very good friend who has achieved quite a bit in his life. Though even he admits that if you look at where he came from, no one would have expected it.
Vic is from a loving and close family where everyone has a strong work ethic. He admits that school was not his strong point. Vic took cosmetology classes to meet girls while he was in school. He’d learned some techniques from his aunt who owned her own salon.
Vic entered the Army after he graduated and went to Vietnam where he was seriously wounded. Upon his return home, he was in limbo...not sure what to do next. His aunt nudged (as in pushed) him to stop sitting around and come work for her.
However, he decided that if he was going to be a hairdresser, he wanted more than to work in a small salon on Long Island.
He ended up working for Mr. Kenneth in NY. One day he realized that only months before he was in the jungles of Vietnam and now he was styling Jackie Kennedy's wig.
Over the years, Vic ended up owning 3 salons that did very well. One day, he announced to his wife that he was going to buy an apartment building. She thought he was out of his mind.But no…Vic knew that if he could renovate each apartment..doing much of the work himself, he could keep tenants in it and charge more rent! Every spare moment he had, he worked on the apartment.
He also bid on and won Michael Jackson’s jacket that he wore in the Thriller video. After he heard, he won, he called his sister and asked if he could borrow some money to pay for the jacket! (years later he sold it for a LOT!)
When I asked Vic how he had achieved so much in his life he said…I figured why not aim high? Whatever I reach will be more than what I would gain if I’d not tried at all.”
As you begin your week, try reaching a little higher!
Aim for the moon. If you miss you may hit a star.
