I've read several posts about the 4th and its meaning to us. While reading them, a conversation with a mortgage loan associateabout a month or so comes to mind. Now the fact that she's a mortgage loan associate has nothing to do with the overall exchange - so if you are one, this is not an attack on you because some people of all professions fall into this group. To best descibe her, I'll us an statement I used to make about a rather negative teacher I once worked with. I believe the first thing done every morning by these folks is to suck hard on a slice of fresh lemon. That way the negativity can flow freely all day long.
Back to my topic, the discussion was a lengthy oration as to the cause of the many local community problems. She ran the full gamut of causes. As she continued, I was extremely restrained from pointing out that the only cause not mentioned was "you". I contribute my restraint to diplomacy, my mama's good teachings, or merely the realization that it would have made no difference anyways.
What I wanted to tell her was, if you've got all the answers, then why aren't you stepping up to make the changes. Volunteer, run for office, serve on committees, join service organizations, whatever. That's the beauty of this country - we can change what we don't like. They don't execute the opposition.
So on this 4th of July, my challenge to all is: What don't you like and how can you help change it?
