Those "First-Times" are so Memorable

Over the years I have assisted buyers (and sellers), where you hear from your clients', things they have thought they have wanted all their lives.    Especially your first-time buyers!

When you have clients moving out of their parents' house, and cannot wait to "set up house", their eyes just get glazed when they see -

  • a fully renovated kitchen with solid surfaces and maybe even stainless steel appliances
  • their first Master Bathroom of their own
  • a walk-in closet where there is enough room for not only the buyer's clothes but maybe even their significant others as well
  • a washer/dryer in the unit/home
  • a white picket fence

What about those move-up buyers who have enjoyed some nice things, but now want to get a bit more -

  • a curved staircase so they can take photos of their kids for prom, or maybe even before a wedding
  • a wine chiller, or a wine cellar
  • a renovated master bathroom that feels like a spa with a heated floor and maybe a steam shower
  • a bathing area for the pup
  • a 3 or 4-car garage with cabinets to keep the garage all organized
  • an outdoor kitchen and even a firepit for gatherings

I remember my first home where I put in air conditioning.   I know that is minor, but don't remember any of the homes even growing up with A/C.   Thinking Denver has reached higher temperatures these days, and now you need it a few days in the summer.

When you go to closing with these clients, they are so darned excited for "their firsts", and so memorable to hand over their keys.   THAT is why we are REALTORS!

Kat Palmiotti gosh, even with only being me, I still use and run the dishwasher.   It may be only every 3-4 days depending on how much I eat out, but couldn't live without it.

Lise Howe OOHH, I could not live without a grill.   Not much of a cook, but I grill pretty good!   The heated floors I put in the master bath at the other house only cost $500, and seemed like such a luxury, and just loved them.

Hi Joan:

It's fun to think back to our first house, and perhaps the other homes we've had and how they were transformed over time, isn't it. I have always enjoyed helping first time buyers and remembering my own experience with my first purchase.

And it's fun to see what some of our buyers have done with their homes over the years when we have the opportunity.

Jeff

As for AC - I've still never lived in a home that had central air - thank goodness!

If we had it, my husband would have it turned on. I'd be wearing 2 sweaters and popping sinus pills.

To each his own.

Realistically, we don't have that many hot days here in the woods of N. Idaho.

Marte Cliff I can imagine you probably don't need it in Northern Idaho!   We only do for about 20 days in the summer.

Joan - that sounds like us. Maybe 20 days, if that, most summers. We did have one that was unusually a couple of years back, but generally we only hit 100 once or twice in a year.

I’ve heard it said that you have to approach your memories of the innocence of a child, but I might want to do it with the innocence of a kitty cat myself. :

After many years of working late in the a/c office the hottest week of year in West Coast, We decided to install an a/c and a new furnace.  The only trouble is we do not use A/C the last couple years because of cool weather.  It has been only a turn on see if it works and turn off.

Watching the excitement of first time buyers is amazing.

When my husband and I bought our second home days after I came home from the hospital with our second daughter, it was a pretty stressful move. On the day after our move, he went to make a drink and the refrigerator had automatic crushed ice, he looked at me and said, now this makes it worth it. Those little things mean a lot.

Dana Hollish Hill you are right, I remember having my first icemaker versus the trays, and thought I had gone to heaven.
