Clogged! It's that time of year.

It's got to be a pretty small drain for a guinea pig to clog it. Even though guinea pigs do shed constantly it's nothing like this time of year and a dog with a heavy coat.

Our Baby has been leaving her coat, in chunks, all over the house for the past two weeks. I was seriously worried as she had such a beautiful shinny coat and no shedding just three weeks back. Her shedding and my applying a tic and flea treatment considered so I was feeling real guilt and anger.

Yesterday was a guilt reliever, having visited with a couple other dog owners who told me they were "picking up" after their dogs in the same fashion.

Home Sellers Note

If you has a dog that is shedding badly this is going to be a difficult time. You never know when you are going to receive a request for a showing. You should NOT show your home with dog hair all over the house! Not only is it a turn off, potential Buyers are only going to see the hair, not the cool features of your home. It will also make it impossible for Buyers with allergies to be in the home.

So, what to do?

The best solution would be if you had a kennel on your property for your dog BUT if that is not possible perhaps you could use a crate (like the one above) and keep your pet in the garage until the showing has ended. Besides that... friends, neighbors?

This is a difficult time for both you and your pet but you need to think ahead and make the best of it for both of you.

Hi Bob... my cat sheds clumps all over the house (he's long-haired) but that's all year long. Fortunately, Bingo is so short-haired he does not shed for all intents and purposes.

I swore I would never own another shedding dog Nina Hollander, Broker but I could not help but rescue Baby. I guess that shedding may be better than paying for grooming a couple of times a year.

Pets can really create issues when we go to sell a home.  It is a good thing we love them so much and I do like your ideas.  I think we would have let a family member enjoy them for a bit.

I think sharing them with family is the best idea myself Ray Henson unless one has a good sized kennel at home and it isn't a North Dakota winter at the time.

Bob, I did a quick carpet clean yesterday with some leftover cleaner that I bought with the rented 'Rug Doctor' for a rental.  I was so please I had to mention to my wife it has only taken 2 years to finally not find a Halley hairball.  While her memory is still strong with me it seems the hairballs are about gone.  lol   mdm

Hi Bob- I can remember when we were selling our home in FL. My dog was blind and weighed about 45 pounds. So for every showing, I had to lift her into my Expedition and take her for a ride. I did not want strangers in the house to frighten her.

I guess that is one benefit of not having much hair or no hair at all, we don't have to be worried about clogging the drains, haha.

We have to sweep/vacuum often to keep those hairs at a minimum!

That was really thoughtful of you Kathy Streib but I just can not imagine little you lifting a 45 pound dog into the car. When we first got Baby both Timmothy and I had to lift her into the back of the Yukon. Now she jumps in.

It seems like it would be a full time job to clean up after Baby right now but we have decided that we can live with one vacuuming a day at this time Kat Palmiotti .

It's heartbreaking when I see her this way although I don't believe she is uncomfortable Myrl Jeffcoat . Just 3 weeks ago she had the most beautiful shiny coat but now she looks like a ragged rug.
