Happy May Day!

May 1st is May Day!

When I was a kid we used to hear about May Day and kids doing the May Pole Dance where they weave in and out of each other as the hold ribbons tied to the top of a large pole. I feel like we heard a lot more about it than we ever actually did. In fact, I can't actually remember celebrating May Day except to say Happy May Day!

How do you celebrate May Day?

Have you ever done a May Pole Dance? Or something else to celebrate May 1st?

Looking it up online I received a wide variety of descriptions of its centuries old origin from Estonia, to Pagans, or the Druids. No matter the history, there are parts of the world that actively celebrate this holiday.

I'm curious to hear if, where, and how it is celebrated here in the USA.

It makes sense for it to be a time for renewal of fortunes and I’m going to use it as such tomorrow probably. Thanks for this post

Well when I was a kid in Communist Hungary May 1st was a mandatory parade  that needed everyone to attend adults and children to what the communist leaders show off their military by a parade with weapons... so with that said I have a different take on May Day not my favorite holiday, Endre

Yes. That is quite a different way to spend May Day.

Good morning Dana. Have not thought about May Day since in the Chicago Public School system way back in the fifties. Enjoy your day.

Hello Dana - I remember May 1 as May Day as a celebratory event in the lower grades of elementary school.  Then I remember Law Day in upper grades - maybe it was fourth.  Of course, it could have been before that or after.

Later, more information "arrived" awareness-wise.  That's the way education works when learning is ongoing.

Starting off a new month with a celebration shpuld be good luck provided the celebration doesn't get too rowdy.

My sister lives in Austria and their celebrations aren't always rowdy, but they always involve a lot of drinking.
