SPRING THYME IS MY TIME

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Criado Realty 0548772

I love the spring because everything comes anew and is colorful. That's Texas Mountain Laurel. It is a tree that blooms purple grape candy smelling flowers every March for about 2 weeks. That is all they will let you enjoy them, but so fragrant you can smell them several houses down! I have one large one, about 20 years old, right in my yard!

I have typically not been a gardener for most of my life but when I reset my life and got out of apartment life I started growing tropicals because I wanted to surround myself with a tropical garden and hot tub, pretending I live in Hawaii, lol!!  I love Hawaii and everything tropical. I just was not a green thumb so most everything died.  I just kept buying new ones and tried to learn from my mistakes. I eventually learned by following several facebook gardening groups, asking questions, and watching youtube videos. I even learned how to propagate Plumerias! So cool!!   This is one of my Aztec Golds. Its quintessential Hawaii! They aren't blooming just yet for 2023 but now they are 6ft tall. There will be about 30 blooms in a few weeks, I can't wait!!

This is Hibiscus, its called HI-C Punch! Great name right? Darling Darla thinks so!

I am back to learning new things again because my boyfriend bought me a miniature hydroponics system. It took me months to find the courage to try it out because I struggle with technology. It's been about 10 days now and it's way cool.... I have enough growth for a tiny mini-salad with arugula, dill, and cilantro! Well, I'd not actually use both those herbs in one salad but definitely I will have herbs for a few salads and dishes soon.  Here are the pics from my herb garden.

(The grow light is white but it looks purple in the photo).

I like fresh meals so I am hoping to make this soon, with my home grown Basil! I think I am about a month away from getting something this big!

If you are not a gardener, its okay. Try this kit and have some fun!! :-)

Life should always have some laughter and flowers!!

It's on the far left top with a TH bubble cover, uncovered for now, hoping it will crack open to root!

Hello Cathy - while any season can add something special to your life, there is something particularly unique about springtime.  May your exploration of the many possibilities continue to plant ideas and sow much imagination.

Your blooms are beautiful and I love the photos that you shared with us!  I have heard good things about hydroponics, although I have never tried it myself.

Hi Cathy... I'm a hibiscus fan and always have one next to my front door on my porch. Love that Texas Mountain Laurel... I've not seen it up close and personal... but seeing your picture makes me wish I could.

I'm in zone 8 so we can do tropicals but it does freeze so I move them into an atrium. It has an electrical outlet so there is a space heater to deal with the days it hits below 30 outside!

So many of my friends have a hydroponics system. They love it. They are learning as well. They recently learned it does much better in a different location.

Oh how cool, Cathy! First off, absolutely gorgeous photos and we are definitely birds of a feather when it comes to loving tropical flowers...and planting things period!

I bought my husband a hydroponic system for Christmas this year and we still have not read up on it or set it up yet! Maybe in the late summer when it's too hot to go outside! LOL

I love that you're doing that with your herbs though - starting them indoors. SO smart - can't wait to see what happens from here.

Thank you so much for your participation in this month's challenge. I look forward to more posts on this topic too!!

When I lived on the Gulf Coast, I loved my tropical plants. Sago Palm was my favorite.

I have two hibiscus that I fondly call my $7 Clearance Special from Lowes. They are going on three years old but haven't bloomed yet this year. They are so beautiful when they do.

I have a friend who loves pink flamingos and puts them in her outdoor photos. You must be birds of a feather!

The beach ready flamingo is precious. The colors on the plumeria seem plastic for their starkness.
