Climate Changes

I recently just visited Texas and was surprised that the look and weather actually seemed the same.! Apparently, Texas weather is just as bipolar as Minnesota's! Texas is known for its scorching summers and tornadoes, and Minnesota is known for below-zero temperatures and snow! Prepare your most appropriate outerwear for Minnesota. Hats, gloves, coats... and don't forget your shovel and snow boots!

I was in Dallas and was surprised that the trees and the look of the city, look very much the same.

The best part of Minnesota is we have four seasons (5 if you count road construction season), otherwise, Minnesota has warm summers that range from the 70s to 90s, and we rarely get up to high 90s or over 100 degrees. Our fall weather is the best, nice and cool, jacket weather and gorgeous! Winter, we discussed not great, but a good time for you to try out skiing, snowshoeing, ice fishing, tubing, and snowmobiling!

Cost of Living

The cost of living in Minnesota is slightly higher than in Texas. Housing, food, and transportation are more expensive in Minnesota, but the higher salaries can balance out the cost of living. Research the cost of living in your new city and plan your budget accordingly. Reach out if you need more information on the area surrounding your new home, your new work location, or your school. I would be happy to direct you to resources that can answer your questions regarding Schools, safety, home pricing, and values. I also offer suggestions on short-term or corporate rentals where you can stay till you find the best area for you!

Housing Market

The housing market in Minnesota is competitive, with low inventory and high demand in most cities surrounding Minneapolis and St Paul. The suburbs around the Twin Cities vary greatly in pricing. The benefit of living in the suburbs of Minneapolis or St Paul is, we have lots of options for commuting if you prefer a quieter neighborhood outside of the city.

I'll be honest, the traffic can be a problem so research areas before you commit to a specific city or neighborhood. I would recommend a short-term rental to get your bearings in Minnesota. If you are a little familiar with the area and planned to buy a home right away, I would suggest researching the Schools systems first if this is a factor for your family. School ratings also vary quite a bit.

Job Opportunities & Education

Minnesota is home to many large companies, including Target, Best Buy, and 3M. The state has a diverse economy with job opportunities in healthcare, technology, and manufacturing. Research potential job opportunities before you move and consider networking with local professionals to increase your chances of finding employment. You can find lots of job resources through LinkedIn, and specific recruiters in your job specialty.

Minnesota has an excellent education system, with highly-rated public schools and top-ranked colleges and universities. Depending on the area you're looking at I can suggest public, private, Christian Academy, or Preparatory Schools (if available). Many of the suburbs of the Twin Cities offer a few options for Schools, some private Schools that do not have tuition. What Do Minnesotans Love?!

Lakes! Minnesota has 10,000 lakes, although I think it's more than that. We love to live on the lakes or Rivers. We love to have boats, jet skis, and cabins. Either in the lake or on the lake (frozen too), we love to be around the lakes.

Some of my favorite lakes to live in or visit:

Mille Lacs

Mississippi River

Brainerd Chain of Lakes

These are just 5 Things you need to know if you're moving from Texas to Minnesota! You will also notice most of the Homes in Minnesota have a basement and are typically sided with vinyl, hardboard, steel, and some brick, however, brick homes are not as prevalent as they are in Texas!
