Friday Fun… Graduation Gifts

How exciting you have three in the family graduates! It is that time of year and always so many activities and well wishes from family and friends. I feel many of the graduates today appreciate a monetary gift!

I remember that I got luggage and a typewriter to go to college. I was very happy to get that!

Good morning, Kathy... I remember receiving jewelry as a graduation gift. Our grands all got checks from us written on the college funds we set up for them when they were born.

I also got luggage for my high school graduation. That must have been the thing back then. It's actually a very logical gift as we go off to college and into life.  Or, it could have just been the gift that said: "It's time for you to move on".  LOL

I like the idea of luggage as a gift, it's very practical.  I don't recall what gifts I received for graduation but I do remember that while I was in college and had my own place, I really enjoyed receiving a dish set for the kitchen, haha.

I always do an amazon gift card. I hate sending dollars anymore.

Oh my gosh Kathy, I can only imagine what a graduate in today's world would think about a gift of a fountain pen!

I think kids today value money as college is so expensive, I do not think too many would know what to do with a fountain pen today.

Kathy, I wrote 3 checks yesterday for clients' kiddos graduating, it is that time of year!

It has been a very long time since I have bought a graduation gift. I would have to agree that money would be well received. I would have no idea how much.

Speaking of dating ourselves … a friend purchased a Mont Blanc fountain pen for his nephew for high school graduation ! Alas, the grad didn’t know what a fountain pen  owas !!!

My high school and college graduations were so long ago - I've completely forgotten what kinds of gifts I received.

When my granddaughter finished high school a couple of years ago, I sent an Amazon gift card.

Wow I am with Marte Cliff  I do not recall what I got for my HS graduation... if memory serves me right it was a congratulatory dinner and now get your but in gear and go to college....Endre

Luggage would have been nice!   I see a lot of peeps wrote "money" in the comments. I think I'll give my next graduating grandchild an Amazon gift card.   And congratulations to yours that are graduating!  

I have noticed that money is a popular gift received by my grandkids.  It's hard to go wrong with it.

Hi Kathy Streib - Congratulations on three graduations this spring!  I like your idea about the luggage.  At one time, that was a great gift and still can be.  It really depends on the person graduating.  One year, I brought back pearl earrings from Tahiti for my niece, and she was so excited.  I tailor the gift to the individual.  But most of the time money seems like the right choice.

in most cases, money is the "universal" gift that never gets old.
