Motivational Monday…Being YOU
What a perfect way to begin the week by being YOU! This means the real you…not the YOU others want you to be or that you think others want.
Today is International Being You Day! It was created by Dr. Dain Heer 3 years ago.
There are so many pressures to be a certain way…to think along the same lines as your peers. Many want us to journey along the same path they take in life.
When I was a young adult, I had what I consider a huge epiphany. I was dating someone who liked to hunt, fish, and go camping every weekend. Having never tried this, I gave it a go. I wouldn’t say that I hated every minute of it, but let’s just say that if I never went camping again, it would be too soon.
My problem was that I thought I needed to enjoy doing all of these things. My huge epiphany was when I realized that it was ok for me to not enjoy hunting and camping. It was who I am…why deny it.
Once I realized this it felt like a large heavy cloak had been lifted off of me. I was who I am and there is nothing wrong with that.
It wasn’t as if I was never going to go camping again but it would only be IF it was because I truly wanted to go.
This weekend one of our family’s new graduates has already reached that Being You status. He chose a small family-focused graduation party rather than a huge blowout like his friends had because he does not like all of the attention and focus. He knows who he is and is comfortable with his choices.
Life truly begins when you discover who you are and not only accept it but embrace it as well.
Be yourself; everyone else is already taken. Oscar Wilde
To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.
Ralph Waldo Emerson
Make the most of yourself....for that is all there is of you.
Ralph Waldo Emerson
The easiest thing to be in the world is you. The most difficult thing to be is what other people want you to be. Don't let them put you in that position.
Leo Buscaglia
You are you. Now, isn't that pleasant?
Dr. Seuss
