Working with a Realtor: Tips for a Successful Partnership

By
Real Estate Agent with Frank Rubi Real Estate LLC

Today in our blog series titled the ABC's Of Real Estate, we will talk about some successful tips for working with a Realtor. The real estate market, whether you're buying or selling, can be fraught with complexities and challenges. Having a reliable and experienced Realtor to guide you can make a significant difference in your experience and the outcome.

Working with a Realtor is much like a partnership. Communication, trust, and mutual understanding are key. Here are some tips for fostering a successful partnership with your Realtor.

Establish Clear Communication

Communication is crucial in a real estate transaction. It's important to communicate your needs, expectations, and concerns openly. Also, establish how and when you want your agent to update you - daily, weekly, via email, phone, text? Remember, your Realtor is there to help and guide you. They can't do their job effectively if they're in the dark about your wants and needs.

Trust Their Expertise

Realtors are professionals who are knowledgeable about the market, negotiation strategies, and the intricacies of real estate transactions. Trust their expertise. While it's important to do your own research, understand that your Realtor has the training and experience to guide you through the process efficiently.

Set Realistic Expectations

While your Realtor will do their best to meet your needs, it's important to have realistic expectations. Not every home will be a perfect fit, and not every offer will be accepted. Be patient, flexible, and open to advice and suggestions.

Provide Honest Feedback

Your feedback is invaluable to your Realtor. Be candid about your experiences and share your feelings about homes you've viewed. Your Realtor will use this feedback to refine your home search or marketing strategy.

Understand Their Role

Realtors wear many hats. They're your market analyst, negotiator, transaction coordinator, and sometimes, your emotional support system. But remember, there are some things an agent can't do, like offering legal advice unless they're a licensed attorney. Understand their role and use their expertise to your advantage.

I think you have to provide honest feedback.  I have actually lost clients who because they had watched one of the real estate shows on television and learned property valuation said and told me my sales price numbers were too low.  They ended up finding an agent who told them what they wanted to hear and their house sold for the price I told them weeks later and after several price drops.   To their credit they called me and told me I had been right.  Real estate sales look easy on television.  But, we know that television is not reality.
