Property tax valuations in Douglas County Colorado went in the mail 5/1/2023. Many local residents were shocked that their property valuations went up between 50-60% in the past 2 years. Residents have until June 3, 2023 to file an appeal. The County has until August 15th to respond. A resident can file a second appeal after the 8/15 response.

As a local real estate agent in Douglas County, which includes Castle Rock, Castle Pines, Parker, Lone Tree, and Highlands Ranch, I talked to several people who gave me some great ideas on how to best dispute your valuations, and I have been disputing the valuations on my properties for many years. I recommend to my clients that they dispute the valuation every two years when the county re-assesses.

When the county re-assesses the values every 2 years, they use a computer generated model, that they wrote and that they input the parameters. An appeal filed by a property owner automatically sends the property to an assessor fro a manual review. Would you rather have a computer written by the government value your property or a real person called an "Assessor"? I'll take the Assessor all day long - every 2 years.

The article is posted on my website, called "Tips to Dispute Your Property Tax Valuations in Douglas County, CO". It is my understanding that many counties use the processes used in Douglas County, so some of the tips may be help in other areas of our state and other states.

If you are looking at houses for sale in Castle Rock or the surrounding areas, please let me know. In 2022 I was named one of the Best Real Estate Agents in Colorado, and have been in real estate for 25+ years, and would like to help.
