Wordless Wednesday…A Lite Remodel
Larry did a lite remodel on one of our bluebird boxes out at Kickerillo.
BACKSTORY
Last month, we had 5 adorable bluebird chicks in the box. And just like that they disappeared overnight.
There were no feathers or indications of any kind of struggle around the box. We are guessing that a snake took them all.
Since the mating season is winding down, we decided to leave the nest there to make it easier for mama bluebird to start another brood.
Before we could blink, she’d laid 5 beautiful blue eggs in the box.
THE REMODEL
Unlike our bluebird box at home, the boxes at Kickerillo do not have baffles which help to keep out squirrels and other predators.
So yesterday, Larry hatched (sorry for the pun) a plan to perform some quick surgery on the box. He gently lifted the birdbox for me to hold while he added a baffle to the pole. We thought about waiting until after the birds had fledged but couldn’t handle losing more chicks.
The remodel took less than 5 minutes and fingers crossed this works! The baffle is the black thing below the box.
