April Showers Bring May Flowers -

An ActiveRain Challenge

"April showers bring May flowers" -- this quote is a reminder that even the most unpleasant things (in this case, the heavy rains of April) can bring about very beautiful and enjoyable things indeed -- including  an abundance of flowers in the month of May!

The saying comes from an English poet, Thomas Tusser, who wrote "sweet April showers, do spring May flowers" in the late 1500's.

So, do April Showers bring May Flowers?

Maybe.  Rain is definitely an important factor when looking at Spring blooms, but temperatures are actually "more" influential.

Warmer temperatures signal to flowers when Spring is on its way and when it's safe to bloom, however, as we've seen from April and May's rollercoaster of temperatures, this is not always how it goes.

The following pictures depict my home in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin and how far we have gotten as of yesterday -- in time for Memorial Day Weekend! This was a concerted effort by my best friend, my husband and myself.  Pictures by Diana Dahlberg

Good morning Diana. Having lived in the concrete jungle of downtown Chicago for years, the wife and I are considering a move to the suburbs so she can do some gardening. Not on your scale, but a garden. You do good work! Enjoy your day.

That looks really good, your hard work has certainly paid off!  You mention rain being important and since we don't get much rain in my area, I am sure that is a reason that not everything grows well here.

Good morning, Diana... as a non-gardener whose only plant in her house is an artificial silk bamboo tree, all I can say is I'm truly impressed by what you have accomplished.

Diana, first glad you got your videos inserted, very nice!   You do have to wait for weather sometimes in order to plant flowers.  Great job.

I was smiling while looking at the car trunk filled with flowers.  There is nothing that makes the heart sing more than coming home from the nursery with new flowers and plantings in springtime.

Oh my gosh, Diana, your yard is gorgeous and I love your raised beds - just so beautiful! I'm with you on the temperatures but, rain definitely helps, for sure. We didn't have devastating rains here in Charlotte but, just enough. The cooler temperatures led to a bit of a delay for many across the country too.

Thank you so much for sharing your gorgeous May flowers and stunning landscape with us this month!

Not many people would drive around with a trunk filled with flowers. Do you keep the trunk open so they can get the sun when you are showing houses?

Very funny Ed Silva ... actually as soon as I got home I opened the trunk so I could put each flower pot in the place it was going to be planted.  If I had the trunk closed for too long it would cook those plants.  LOL

Diana Dahlberg - WOW! What  great blog post to show off your spring flowers! Oh, and all that land! Many people have a home but few has so much rich soil to plant and grow! I hope your summer flowers are ever blooming giving you much joy and frequent flyers like butterfies too!
