Officially, the Florida state bird is the Northern Mockingbird. It is known for its remarkable ability to mimic the songs of other birds and even sounds from the environment. The Northern Mockingbird is highly adaptable and commonly found throughout Florida and other parts of the United States. FLORIDA MOCKINGBIRD INFO
However, I would argue that the real Florida "Songbird" is the gas powered leaf blower (and the other lawn equipment) that you'll hear whining daily, nearly year round. Funny, right? Well, one thing to know about Florida, and specifically SW Florida where I'm located, is that everything grows year round here. That being said, your surrounding neighbors will likely have lawn maintenance scheduled on different days of the week whether doing this themselves or hiring a lawn care service. This creates what seems like a non-stop sound of leaf blowers (OK, it's really not that bad!). I won't get into the differences between deed and non-deed restricted communities in this post, but will give the win to the "maintenance free" communities where each home's lawn care throughout the community is handled on the same day. That's a win in my book for a little peace and quiet. By the way, I have yet to hear the Mockingbird mimic the sound of a leaf blower. Maybe someday? 🤣

Be on the lookout for a post soon about the comparison of different types of communities you can expect to find in Florida, and specifically, Sarasota Florida.
You may be thinking I'm being harsh or over "blowing" (pun intended) the leaf blower songbird situation, but it's a reality of living in this beautiful paradise we call Florida.
