Greater Waterbury CT Memorial Day Events

As a weekend of festivities are in full flow, and to remember the brave men and women that gave their lives for our country, below are some events in the Greater Waterbury area for people to enjoy and participate.

Greater Waterbury CT Memorial Day Events

Sunday

WATERBURY: Parade will start on Freight Street at 1 p.m. and conclude in front of the Elks Lodge on West Main Street followed by ceremonies on the Green. The parade route will start on Freight Street, east on Grand Street, north on Bank Street, west on the south side of the Green on West Main Street and pass the Elks Lodge to Meadow Street, where the parade will end. Ceremonies on the Green will start after the parade. Waterbury Veterans Memorial Committee will host its annual Memorial Day patriotic services at 2 p.m. at the Green. The event will remember the 529 Waterbury men who have given their lives in service to our nation.

WOODBURY: Parade and ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. at Woodbury Middle School. The march down Main Street will conclude at approximately 2:45 p.m. at Cannon Green, where a brief ceremony is scheduled.

MONDAY

PLYMOUTH: Parade will start at 10:30 a.m. on Main Street and the ceremony will be at the Civil War monument at Hillside Cemetery instead of Baldwin Park because of construction. Parking will be available at Fisher School via the North Main Street entrance and Eli Terry Middle School via the Charles Street entrance.

PROSPECT: Parade will begin at 1 p.m. Everyone is welcome to join the parade and line up at the Community Center at 12:30 p.m. There will be a flyover between 1 and 2. There will be a ceremony on the Green after the parade.

SOUTHBURY: Parade will begin at 11 a.m. at Pomperaug Office Park and continue down Main Street South to the Memorial Green for a ceremony for those who served. Main Street South between Depot Hill Road and the Senior Center will be closed to traffic during the parade. This year’s parade celebrates Southbury’s 350th anniversary with a number of highlights, including an appearance by the Mattatuck Fife N’ Drum Band, which will return after performing at the town’s “History Walk” earlier this month. After the parade, a Family Day Picnic will take place from noon to 3 p.m. at Ballantine Park. Boy Scout Troop 1607 will sell hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and drinks, and picnic-goers can bring their own food. Veterans will receive free meals.

THOMASTON: Parade will begin at 10 a.m. and proceed down Main Street to Center Street to Hillside Cemetery. At the cemetery, Miss Columbia will be rowed around the pond by Army veteran Keith April. Miss Columbia is Thomaston High School senior Kylie Decker. Her court will include Marissa VanOrmer and Sophia Hyres. The escorts are Morgan LeClair, Nathan Kowalski and Milan Grant. The parade will reform at the bottom of the hill and march to Veterans Memorial Park by way of Meadow, Elm and East Main streets. A float will be provided for any veteran who would like to be in the parade but is unable to march. Contact John Beecher at 860-283-4438 or 860-459-6408 for reservations.

WATERTOWN: The Watertown-Oakville Veterans Council parade will begin at 10 a.m. at Watertown Plaza, 1167 Main St. (Route 63), proceed south on Main Street and conclude at the Oakville Green for ceremonies. All veterans and military personnel serving are invited to march or ride in the parade. For information and weather updates, call 860-945-5272.

WOLCOTT: Parade will take place at 4 p.m. starting at Saint Basil Church on Woodtick Road and ending at Scoville Reservoir for a water ceremony.
