1789 is an upscale restaurant located above the Tombs. The restaurant is named for the year that the Constitution was adopted, the village of Georgetown was incorporated, and Archbishop John Carroll, founder of Georgetown University,  purchased the land that is the site of the restaurant.  Located in a Federal home dating from the mid 19th century, the restaurant has the feel of a stately home with working fireplaces.  If you are looking for a trip back in time to an earlier period of Georgetown's history, 1789 is your ticket!

Hi Lise... I remember, Clydes. I've also eaten at Martin's Tavern. Would love to check out Filomena as I love Italian food. Trying to remember the name of a little Italian restaurant I used to go to in the 1960's in Georgetown, but can't seem to do so.

Lise Howe hi Lise... I suspect that's true in many places. There are a number of restaurants I loved in Charlotte that were iconic and no longer exist. Same in New York City.

Hi lise- Clydes was the first restaurant we went to in Georgetown. Our friend came in to celebrate his 40th birthday and we ate there, then took a drive around DC to see the monuments at night.
