I share the above photo each year as veteran friends of mine and residents on one of my favorite streets in Charlotte, always prepare their home the week before their big Memorial Day gathering at their home. The century-old hardwoods, flowering shrubs and greenery surrounding their gorgeous home are a perfect back-drop for the over-sized American flag.

Memorial Day has come and gone. Yet it is always a special day for us. My wife lost her Uncle in the Vietnam conflict. I never know him but I have heard that he was quite a guy.
