Every year, on last Monday in May, and this year on Monday, May 29, 2023, we celebrate Memorial Day holiday by gathering with family and friends, attend parades, and honor and praise those who lost their lives for our freedom.
Memorial Day originally was known "Decoration Day" and observed on May 30 1868, flowers were placed on soldiers graves at Arlington National Cemetery. New York was the first state to officially recognize the holiday in 1873. The United States Congress passed “The National Remembrance Act,” and requests that all American citizens to pause their activities wherever they are at 3:00PM local time and give a moment of silence to those who have fallen to protect our freedoms as American people.
I want to share some of the best Memorial Day quotes:
"The price of freedom is eternal vigilance.” President Thomas Jefferson
"Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it.” Mark Twain
"In the truest sense, freedom cannot be bestowed; it must be achieved." President Franklin D. Roosevelt
"Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty" President John F. Kennedy
"Guard against the impostures of pretended patriotism.” President George Washington
"For love of country, they accepted death.” – President James A. Garfield
I am personally very grateful to everyone who served, and currently serving for their courage and sacrifices they made to protect our country, so we can live a free better life.
God Bless United States of America and all who have served, and now serving our nation to protect our freedom. Please remember all the veterans, especially veterans experiencing health and financial problems on Memorial Day.
I want to wish to all my friends and to all members at Active Rain community a Happy Memorial Day.
WISHING YOU AND YOUR FAMILY HAPPY AND WONDERFUL MEMORIAL DAY
