Carlsbad Art Wall May 2023
The 2nd Carlsbad Art Wall mural of 2023 was completed last weekend by visual artist Ricky Watts. Watts was born in San Francisco and works out of his Northern California studio.
This is the 35th mural since the Carlsbad Art Wall was founded. We’ve seen some amazing diversity, creativity and beauty over the years.
The colors are vibrant, particularly in contrast to the May Gray day yesterday.
The #CarlsbadArtWall was founded by well-known Carlsbad artist, Bryan Snyder, in 2015. This on-going project is in cooperation with the owner of Senor Grubby’s Mexican Restaurant in Carlsbad Village.
Bryan also founded the Carlsbad Alley Art Wall, among other art projects in Carlsbad.
The Carlsbad Art Wall gives residents and visitors an opportunity to enjoy temporary public art by local, regional, and occasionally even international, artists.
The public can watch the artists at work on their creations, which are often painted over a 2-day period, typically the weekend.
While you may not have heard the official name, you’ve likely noticed the changing murals at Senor Grubby’s Mexican Restaurant’s east-facing wall if you live in the area or have visited Carlsbad Village.
The Carlsbad Art Wall is just west of the train tracks, across the street from the Carlsbad Village Faire Shopping Center, as you head to the beach. It’s easy to spot.
Carlsbad’s reputation as an arts community continues to expand with abundant public art (interactive map on the City of Carlsbad website). There are multiple art galleries, a performance theater, a number of arts and crafts fairs, plus live music events throughout the year. The Carlsbad Art Wall is a very special part of our vibrant arts community!
