Wordless Wednesday…New Tenants???
Larry and I monitor several bluebird boxes at Kickerillo-Mischer Preserve. Sadly, since the freeze in 2021, some of the boxes have not been as productive.
One box had only one brood last year. All of the babies were taken by a predator.
This year, when Larry opened the box all he saw was this…
Not a bluebird nest. In fact, we weren’t sure if it was a nest. It looked like a mess of leaves, moss, and feathers. Larry decided to take a stick to try to move the leaves and branches to clear the box for a new tenant.
He gently started moving the grass and leaves but realized there was something in there. We came back and used our wireless endoscope to see what was in the box.
But he was surprised to see these little guys.
New tenants!!! They’re not bluebirds but we’re guessing they’re wrens.
Either way, we’re happy to have them.
