"The Earth laughs in flowers."
-Ralph Waldo EmersonAlthough I always answer "Fall" when asked what my favorite season is, I genuinely love Spring. Who doesn't love the floral fiesta created by the combination of April Showers and the warmer temperatures the month of May brings? Watching the daily progress as the plants come out of dormancy and come alive again is such a joy.
I don't have the green thumb my husband did. His daughter Lisa inherited that from him. This year Lisa, who has a degree in floral design, came over and filled my flower pots with color bombs. We also planted some tomatoes and three baby Clematis plants. My absolute favorite plant that announces the arrival of Spring is my purple phlox. It is always the first thing to bloom out in my small yard.
Another favorite is the pink Dogwood tree that blooms shortly after the phlox. We have a lot of Dogwood trees around central Washington. Some pink. Some white. And some pink and white.
I had the opportunity to spend the Memorial Day weekend in Port Townsend, Washington, with AR member Aura Alex. While driving around, I noticed the brightest red Rhododendron bush I had ever seen. That's the Featured Photo.
This is my entry into the ActiveRain May Challenge: Shower Power hosted by Debe Maxwell, CRS.
