High Tension Power Lines and Real Estate

By
Real Estate Agent with TOUCHSTONE REAL ESTATE

I am not about to get in the debate about High Tension Power Lines and whether there is a risk or health issue this is about real estate.  The Villages, Florida has a few places with the 120’ high towers but The Villages has tried its best to build and landscape according, but there are still homes that back up to these power lines.  Just this week I had a client I have been working with for a few months prior to their visit later this month send me an adorable home they were interested in.  I checked and told them the power lines were directly off the rear property line, next!

In real estate, it is all about location, I’m sure you have heard that before and power lines, a major road or highway, a prison, a stone quarry even a pond or lake can be a turn off for some people.  When considering moving to The Villages what is a turn off for you or maybe power lines or the above list doesn’t dampen your love for that special home.

Bill Salvatore - East Valley I am sure when they put those lines up The Villages was about 10,000 people, now we have expanded past them.  Lind of like putting a beltway around a city only to have the city keep expanding!

You will have power lines if you live on a lake -hydro or nuclear cooling.  We would not have the lake without producing power.  You have to weigh the positives and decide what works for you.

When I was shopping for a home before I was an agent, my agent would not allow me to consider homes that were too close to power lines.  I don't give an opinion one way or another but I do know that most people would prefer not to have power lines in their backyard.

Brian England I never steer people away from power lines but always make sure they know they are there!  Sometimes those homes are listed less due to the power lines.

There is an advantage to being near a run of power lines and that is the additional space. The disadvantage is the power lines.

Ed Silva for some the power lines are not a problem others avoid them.

regardless of whether there is any value to the concern about health risks, I encourage buyers to skip houses backing to high voltage transmission lines because they are a harder sell.
